I'm looking into taking my Dad on a fly-in trip for his 60th birthday, wondering if anyone can recommend any guides or outfits in western Canada. I'm trying to keep the budget fairly low, but don't want to go with a sketchy outfit. We don't mind making our own food, and roughing it a bit, not looking for a 5 star type thing. looking to do a 3 day trip or so.

Any help would be great, tips on places, guides, what to expect for budget, ect.

Thanks!

I would start with your budget. There are many different options guided unguided housekeeping where you bring your own food cook your own food most fly-in trips are between 500 and 1000 a day for any kind of guided semi guided trip. housekeeping with your own boat a little bit less couple hundred bucks a day

$1200-1800, an we don't mind going without a guide, it'd be more about the adventure and catch a few fish

I would talk to Dan at Andrew Lake lodge. He has many options depending on where you fly from. Lakes are in NE Alberta. He runs a top notch operation. I've been on trips with him for many years in a row-all to Bocquene lake- more rustic with no guides-cook your own food and self guided. Walleye fishing in June is great. I'm booked this June again!!!

look up in the buffalo narrows area of sask, awesome fishing up there and lodge rates are usually reasonable.

here is the sask link to all the outfitters

Dan is the man. Give him a call and tell him what you are looking for and what your budget is. He has a lot of options available. I've been doing fly-in hunting/fishing trips with Dan for a very long time.
He is also a sponsor of this forum.

Try Collins Camp up on Besnard lake, Sk. I did my stag party up there, and you can get a Cabin that sleeps up to 8, has a kitchen and running water, personal fire pit, etc. if you book for July or August, I think it's around 375-400$ dollars and that includes a 12' lund fishing boat. It's an extra 100$/night in May/June. Fishing is typically awesome northern Sasky fishing, and the lake is beautiful Canadian Shield. Worth a try for sure. It's a out a 9-10 hour drive from Edmonton.

Forgot to mention that it is self guided, or you can pay extra for a guide (about 200$/day)

Is that budget per person or total? Also, what species are you looking to target?

This place has some awesome places to chase fish with cabins and boats. You can DIY or hire a guide, your choice.

I have personally flew with him (6 or so times for hunting) and have hunted and fished Netson lake. We used to camp where the cabin now sits. The stream beside the cabin always had Grayling and the odd Bull at the mouth.

PM me if you are looking for some more info.

Cheers

Just another quick note on pricing most lodges I've ever worked for all of them charged in American Funds maybe some of these smaller mom-and-pop places don't

Thanks for all the help guys. The $12-1800 is the budget per guy, going with three guys. As for target species, doesn't really matter. More of the goal is the fly-in and remoteness part. Not looking for some thing we can drive to

Check out Bistcho Lake Lodge. You drive to High Level, and fly in from there. Take your own food and booze. They supply Cabin and boat. No guides. Very Good pike and walleye fishing. Decent accommodation. Short flight keeps the cost down. 4 nights 3 guys, all in 3800, so pretty much spot on your budget. Extra days don't add very much to the cost.

Thompson Camps on Otter Lake in Missinippe SK is a great way to go for a relatively reasonably priced fishing trip. You can rent cabins and boats if needed at the base camp and it is also a fly out hub and you can charter flights reasonably out for day trips and overnight/multinight trips with or without guides.

We go up here every year...

We used to go up into the Territories north of Fort Smith and a few trips by jet boat to Great Bear Lake. Rutledge Lake was awesome fishing but think both lodges have shut down on it now. There used to be lots of fly in fishing out of Fort Smith and probably still is.
I always liked going for the big Lakers and Pike.
Great Bear is the best for the big lakers but it is probably out of your price range.

Try out Grey Owl Camp. I went there last year with a buddy who caught the lodge record laker to date. We drove to Missinipe and got on a float plane and headed there. Really neat experience. You stay in little cabins on an island and fish Oneman and Asiski lakes. Wood burning stoves BYOB and the owner Roy is a great guy.mrsally relaxed trip. Just go in June or July, otherwise the mosquitos will eat your soul!

Vermilion lake outfitters!! Me and a few fellow forum members have been 6 consecutive years!! Mel and Marge or Jody and Jeff will take great care of you. Will fit your budget as well.

Fly out of Buffalo Narrows Sask. They are the only place on the lake!! We've fished 6 different lakes from their camp... all packed with Pike, Walleye, and lake trout.

Mel will gladly show you around but for the most part we've always headed off to explore the lakes on our own.... paradise!!

Great food and they take really good care of you.

I'll try and find the old thread about one of our great trips.
