When looking in the AB Fishing Regs. many of them will have a limit posted for Burbot or Perch...does this mean they ARE in the lake or does the Ministry simply employ a blanket basic set of limits for many lakes. I have been thinking of trying out such lakes as Fincastle, Horsefly, Yellow and Hays-Grantham etc. etc.
Barry Mitchells Guide rarely mentions Burbot so I was just curious and also figuring the Pike gotta be eating "something"...

The pike eat smaller pike.

It's my understanding that the way they decide what species are in certain lakes is the biologists sample net fish the body of water and see what they catch. If they say a certain species is or was in the lake doesn't necessarily mean you will catch any while fishing.

My guess is most of the lakes u mentioned are all connected with the irrigation canals so Likly some in each or has potential to have them been born an raised in an around taber an fished almost all those lakes lots of times

Used to fish Fincastle,Horsefly and all the other locals as a kid

Never caught anything but smallish pike.

There is some perch around but not of any size you would want to keep. As to burbot cannot say never caught one and do not know anyone who caught one either.
