cant hold it back any longer, have to show it. havent had a big bore rifle in a long time, miss my old 45-70 #1
made a trade deal a while ago for the gun of my dreams, a .458 Win Mag. She's semi custom Model 700, having a 24 inch King barrel, Safari sights, Remington Laminate stock, Custom made trigger guard and hinged floor plate. It has Leupold bases and quick release rings. The holes in the mounts and reciever were widens to accept wider mounting screws. All metal parts match in color and texture. She weighs a tonne, and will break some heart this elk and moose season.
Shes not wearing a scope at the moment, but after my wedding, Im going to be treating her to a Leupold VX-III 1.5x5-20mm. Also going to be beginning reloading this year...........because its about time
anyways, hears some pics of the beast.
pics dont do it justice, she changes color with different types of light.:D :D :D

dont get me wrong, im already trying to work into him that guns are not toys and to repect them, and not be afraid of them. He's getting his own Crickett rifle soon to grow into.

One word.....OUCH :rollin :rollin
Just kiddin there bud, nice lookin pill slinger. You will have to bring it out to elk camp some time, that way the elk will be killed, cleaned, tenderized, cut and wrapped, all at once. :D :eek

with 510 grainers, she will make jalepeno and cheddar smokies as well.
she only had 17 rounds through the pipe when i traded for her, but since ive shot a few 510 grainers, and the recoil isnt as bad as one would think, but she lets you know whos in charge. Not your gopher plinking gun but managable
gotta love about 4800-5000 ft pounds of energy at the muzzle:b and around 60 - 63 foot lbs on the shoulder:|

yes and then some. its a favoured scope for african big game hunters, the .458 makes a good rainbow and drops real quick past 200 yards. so no need for a super high powered scope:)

i love how the bore and the front sight shroud (sp?) are pretty much the same size

the shroud over the front sight is actually "Pinned" i think its called, so that it doesnt "fly off in the bushes", from the recoil.
thx for the comments guys, she is indeed my safe queen. I doubt i will waste my elk tag next year with a bow, as i am really looking forward to filling the tag with this gun. and a moose for that matter. or a whitetail for S & G's (or not)

Awesome ..................... Now your talking my lingo. My brother has a custom built 458 it's a great shooter. I still say the recoil of these guns isn't as bad as the hype. We shoot that gun all the time. IMO my 340 without the break on, is worse to shoot.

Beauty, would hate to get on the wrong end of that. Might not like the other end much either, but one day I would love to get ahold of a cannon like that.

considering he just woke up, i think he was ok:b Since he's really starting to talk alot, he's even been learning what parts of a gun are called, and where its not safe to put your hands.
PM sent

hey bb,what kind of decent range would you get from a rifle that size?
bigbore
03-09-2007, 02:01 PM
i would say im not going to be pulling the trigger on anything past 200 do to the arch past that, plus once i do get a scope on it we will see, i will have to find my comfort range is due to recoil. Dont want to shoot past the point where i am un accurate
