What do you like for blinds?

I've tried several different types on the fields or on the water. Some were way more trouble than they worth and some of the ones I didn't think would work well worked great.

After years of looking for the "better mouse trap" I've settled with the KISS principle.

I use my ghillie suit and a backpack seat.

First pic is from 20 yards, second is from 100yds.

I love the ghillie for those days when the birds land just out of range. Every stinking bird sucks to the live ones and you are SOL. trying to move.

With the ghillie I just stand up grab a few dekes and move to where the birds had landed. When the "new" birds come, they suck to me and my 2-3 dekes instead of the "spread". the move takes a s long as it takes to walk 100yds or whatever.

I have a "popup" blind that I like as well, but the name escapes me now. When it is setup there is room for two shooters on chairs. the top opens when you want to shoot. I don't like the color, [dark woods} and was concerned using it in a stubble field, but it works great. The birds seem to ignore it.

I've also used permanent blinds with benches and hot coffee:D I know many days in the rain when I wished I was back in that blind.

I've been thinking about selling my dekes and gear and getting away from migratory hunting, but typing this little post has caused me to remember the great days I've had out bird hunting. Maybe I'll quit when I die:D or maybe I won't.

Cheap and the best for concealment other than what you have suggested is the Power hunter. I run all my hunters with them and are great. Not the most comfy but the best to hide and get geese in close.

Thats very interesting................:) I might have to try that this year! I've been looking into ground blinds but dont like how you can only use them on field hunts. I go out in my canoe lots and have been searching for a better way of hiding in my boat! and its duel purpose! man I cant wait for september 1st!!!!!

Hello Red Frog,
I put all my waterfowl hunters in Gooseview x-terminator blinds very comfortable and functionable. They love em and they are priced right.

The advantage of 'layout' blinds is that they support the upper 1/3rd of your body and keep you in a ready to shoot position. The disadvantage of the ghillie suit, is that although they hide you well, you need to either sit or lie flat, neither of which are good shooting postions. I've used them with a backrest support, but find all the bits of dangling camo garbage got in the way when I tried to shoot something.

I use a few powerhunters with 'killerweed'. They are easy to camo and hide, and comfortable to lay in. You can drag them across the ground to move them if need be, but honestly I've never had a problem with birds 'landing out of range', so I don't see any need for mobility.

Another reason I like the powerhunter, is that if I'm hunting in a 'no-till' field and can't drive in, me and a buddy can shove a few dozen Realgeese decoys into the blind, strap it on our backs and hike in very easily.
