Canadian Fisherman's Breading and Batter Mixwhen to Canadian Tire, and the brand that i always buy has been sold out for awhile. God only knows when they'll get some back on the self. Does anyone know where else a guy can buy this brand??

Make your own. It's super simple.

Flour with spices of your choice.

Then dip in egg.

Then coat with panko and corn flake crumbs.

Or beer batter.
Flour, spices, beer.

Find a spice mix you like and never worry about running out of store bought mix.

No sure if it's better than Pro fish batter because I've never tried it. I found some at other Canadian Tires in the province, now it just trying to figure out how to buy it and get it back to the ' Hat here.

Buy it at Canadian Tire on-line. They'll ship it to your local store at no cost, you pick it up in a couple of days.

Bass Pro has like 6 types of batter . Original beer batter seems to be the best.

I contacted the Medicine Hat Canadian Tire and they told me that all stores are independently owned and operated. As such, i can purchase this item on-line from another store but to get it here i would have to get it shipped by a courier ie. Purolator or UPS and i would have to cover the charges myself.

I like making everything from scratch but fish batter is one thing that's really difficult to make at home. The commercial stuff has flours and starches that aren't available to the average dude making the commercial stuff crispy in a way that's difficult to replicate.

Corn starch, cornmeal and panko for crunch.

Not true. I'm far from a professional chef but I do like to cook and I was able to come up with a beer batter recipe for my celiac daughter. It took a few tries to get it right and even though its gluten free it tastes as good as any beer battered fish I've ever had.

2 cups Kinnikinnick All purpose gluten free flour
¼ cup corn starch
1 teaspoon baking powder
400mL Green’s Gluten Free Tripel Blonde Ale (Belgium)
1 egg white

mix the above dry ingredients
add beer and egg white and mix again to consistency of pancake batter
chill in fridge

Fish – cut into 1”x1”x5” strips
Kinnikinnick All purpose gluten free flour
Emeril’s essence (to taste)

dredge fish in flour/Emeril’s essence mixture, dip in batter and fry in 350 degree oil

Do not substitute other flours or a different beer and make sure the batter is chilled before frying

I found it pretty easy as well. The biggest thing is making sure your oil is at the right temp and then properly draining so they don't go soggy. Last time I did a beer batter they were still crunchy in the morning.

Cup flour ( if you want pastry flour just scoop out a tablespoon of flour and add back tablespoon of corn starch and mix it in well)
teaspoon baking powder ( again mix it in well while still dry)
teaspoon lemon pepper spice
half teaspoon garlic powder
half teaspoon salt
1 egg
one beer ( your choice less one swig)
mix well

dip fish chunks in milk quickly coat in flour and dip into batter mix.
Place in hot oil but not too hot as you dont want batter to burn before fish is cooked
cooking usually just couple minutes a side
drain on paper towel delicious and crispy as all get out

great on a fresh warm cibata bun with slice spanish onion and homemade fish sauce

My wife makes tarter sauce by mixing mayo and her homemade sweet relish. Or make some coleslaw and put that and whatever you like for fixings with your fish in a soft taco.

I prefer breading over batter myself.

2 parts corn flake crumbs
1 part flower.
Whatever seasonings you want, i usually go with lemon pepper.

soak fish in condensed milk and egg
take out and put in the breading mix
deep fry.

Once its fried its a nice thin coating that's not super greasy like batter is.
If I am going through the trouble I am eating fish, not batter.
