Well just some opinions please ... for my upcoming trip Sunday

I usually fish the SW side of Wabamun or the off of the PP in Pigeon
and ** I like to target Pike **. The prospect of catching a big jack
excites me over catching 10 average walleye. That's just me.

Any advice:

1. Try Fallis at Wabamun instead for pike (never been there)
2. Go to Pigeon
3. Stick with the SW Wabamun - 'cause it's what you know.

I use tip ups and smelts.

Thanks for the opinions ... (I needed to talk fishing :) )

Pigeon does not have good pike fishing stick with wab if pike is what you want.

:thinking-006:I fish wab alot as I also fish same minded as your self. BIG!its been slow but its picking up
#1 south side has been very slow. I will be thinkn south side out nearish the old out flow/boat launch(closed:mad0177:) from the sundance plant?
#2 south side out from rr52 go east?
#3 North side out front of scout camp (north side has ice riges to wach for.)
Now all I have to do is pick one myself???
Good luck

Try point Allison, or south side of the lake by the golf course

thanks for the thread...much appreciated. After years of reading about people fishing Wab, we're going to head up there from Olds this weekend and see what all the fuss is about. Predator rigs and big ol' smelts....let's get 'er done!

I googled "Ice Fishing Wabamun" and approximately 10-gajillion threads from this site popped up.....I should be alright :) Got a couple spots we'll try. Looking forward to it! As a general rule, fishing in Alberta just isn't even comparable with back home in Manitoba, but I make the best of it while I'm here. A place like Wab with its decent pike fishing is a little closer to home than some of your walleye fishing in this province....

Thanks everyone. Wabamun tomorrow (Sun) AM it is. I only have a hand auger so it will be a good workout.

If anyone is out on the SW side by 55 off the weeds come say hi.

used to have one of the better pike fishery's before all the walleye stocking.

And before the north plant shut down..

I've caught 20lb+ pike at both Pigeon and Wab but the likelihood of doing so is much greater at Wab. If you are using a handauger make sure its at least 8", I've caught pike at wab that muffin top out of an 8" hole, they barely fit.

Had a solid evening Walter bite. Buncha cookie cutter 18"s but was fun, non stop action for a bit. No sign of the sharks. We were at the Fallis entry closest to the train tracks. Heading out tomorrow morning, likely to Wab town boat launch area...

Just wanted to touch base again on this. Tried the Wabamun boat launch area Sunday morning/early afternoon, and had zero luck. Some small bites on the dead stick, but nothing up and that was about it for action. Didn't seem like anyone out there was having a ton of success. Decided to head back to Fallis, and down by the YWCA camp (next to the C.O. house) and we had much better luck. Fairly steady action from some smaller Eyes in the 18" range. Was great to see the CO boys out on sleds, checking licenses. Beautiful day to be out on the ice! Should also mention it's 30+" of ice right now....our auger BARELY made it through. Just about time for extensions!
