I need 3 different fishing licenses to fish within a 50 km radius of my home in Canmore - totalling almost $120.00

BC non-resident license - $57.75 ($37.80 for BC residents)
Parks Canada Mtn Parks - $34.30
Alberta resident - $26.94 (plus your WIN Card fee)

When compared to other jurisdictions, I think Alberta has room for an increase in annual license fees, although combined with my hunting draw applications and tags, these outdoor pursuits are getting a little costly!

You forgot to add in a few weekends of the BC classified water tax!

Might not be a lot of money if you're keen and fish often like many of us .... but if you're only a 'casual' angler who goes out a couple of times, or if trying to get a newbie interested in the sport, it can add up.

I know a lot of golf courses that are about $160 for ONE ROUND of golf!

I'd pay $160 for one licence, and it'd still be a good deal.

The National Parks license makes me laugh. Many of those in control of the parks don't want fishing period , yet they keep raising the rate..They want the money but don't want fishing.

the reasoning behind the hike is the same as raising cigarette taxes...to discourage the user from doing it. You're right, they don;t want fishing, so they make us pay more, to discourage us from doing it.:(

Canadian Residents who buy an Ontario fishing license pay the same as an Ontario resident which was around $24 and that was for a full blown license. Unless they have changed it in the last year or so.

Well according to the Ontario fishing regulations its 45 bucks plus you have to buy a card similar to what Alberta has . I think that Canada could offer a all provinces license which would be neat even if they charged 150 to 200 dollars it would be money well spent for such people who fish many different provinces a year . I think it would be a hell of a deal .

They changed it I see, used to be $22 bucks or so if you had the Card already.

We fish in both Alberta and BC, so like others pay for 2 licenses. I don't mind because we go to BC fairly often camping and visiting relatives. Getting in some fishing is bonus:D

I agree with you BBJ, A federal license would be a good idea, that way when guys go on fly in trips to ontario or want to head to tobin for a weekend or wherever it would all be covered on their one license.

I don't think the cost of a license is much at all for a years entertainment, it's the price of beer that is starting to get to me

I was a bit surprised how cheap it was when I went and bought my fishing license. I was expecting twice what it was.

That said, look on the brightside you get to live in Canmore.

still remember paying 5 bucks for the Alberta license, those were the days. I just figure it out at 1 dollar a fish then it doesnt take long to make it worth whatever they are charging.

I've had my saskatchewan, alberta, and bc licenses for the last 3 years. I don't even look at the price of the license when I buy it. To me being able to fish salmon, trout, bass, pike, walleye, sturgeon and other various fish in all different types of water is priceless. My wife would probably say otherwise...That's why I dont ask her...:)
