My brother just found out about a tradition they have in Clearwater BC. Dutch Lake is right in town, and every year they set up a wooden man on the lake. Locals bet on when man falls through ice 131309

I heard they used to do that here in Cold Lake back in the day, but they would use a car.

Used to do that where I grew up in Meadow Lake too, but on the "backwater" just east of town and with a car. Suspect the wooden man is easier on the environment than dumping an old Pinto in the water.

Thanks for that info. Great to hear from someone from Clearwater on this forum. I go there a lot. Do you know how deep Dutch lake is, and do the fish get big in that lake? My brother just bought property on Dutch lake so it will be very handy when I visit him. PM sent.

The residents of Slave Lake have been doing this for many years.

I grew up in Clearwater and they have been doing that for years. There are rainbows and Kokanee in Dutch lake. Biggest trout I have caught out of there was 5 lbs. and the Kokanee are great.
