NSR Tributaries (specifically in Edmonton)

Hi All,

I would just like some clarification before dropping a line in the water.

If I can't fish the tributary, that means the creek itself is out of the question correct?

Am I allowed to fish the mouth (blue area - or what I call the mouth) and the actual river itself?

My understanding is that you cannot fish upstream of a transverse line that crosses the tributary mouth as if it were a continuation of the NSR shore.

In essence, draw a straight line along the NSR shore and fish only on the NSR side of that line.

If you want to be safe I would treat it as if it was a "canal" (as defined on page 23 of the regs) and not fish within 23m downstream of the mouth of the creek.

If someone find a definitive answer I would appreciate hearing it as well because it does not seem to be specifically defined.

Check the regulation book for 2017. There is a discrepancy between the Alberta Fishing Guide section you have posted. Sauger are not allowed to be kept from the NSR(page 12) of the regulations. Only one pike (not 3) over 63 cm is allowed to be kept from the NSR below Drayton Valley bridge(page 63) of the Alberta Sport Fishing regulations.
