The beaver one is a connibear I presume? If so, this is my input: Get some sticks, and chicken wire. Make a penaround the badgers hole, and cut a hole in the wire big enough for the connibear. Secure it very well. Put some meat, or throw some dead gophers on the other side of the connibear so the badger has more incentive to take the.... easy:evilgrin::lol:;) way out. He hehe. Should work good. Good luck!

Yup, that's how!! I'd make the pen about 6 feet square.

Let us know how you make out. Maybe some pics
good luck

ya it is the square type i think it is the connibear. so just set the mesh flat over the hole type thing and put a whole in the center for the trap to sit in?

The mesh doesnt go over the hole, it goes around the area of the hole, like 5 feet from the hole on all sides, the put the connibear in like a gate, and the meat on the ground on the other side. here.
O=hole
f=fence
T=trap
M=meat

You don't have to make the pen very big...perhaps a diameter of 3'. I would set 2 body grip traps (220, or 8-9" is best). If you are using bait make sure to cover the top of the pen with a piece of board to hide the bait or you will be catching hawks and owls as well.

My diagram wouldnt work, but you put the bait OUTSIDE the pen, on the other side of the trap, this way the badger thinks "Hey, hey, that looks like mighty fine eating right there, might as well go straight to it through that trapped opening instead of digging under the fence, it would be easier."

This is ALBERTA outdoor forum, LAND OWNERS DONT have a season!! Its a pest, wrecking THEIR land, that is a danger to THEIR pets, and kids. Landowners can kill them anytime!

They may be hunted but not trapped at anytime of the year by a land owner on his own land.

You are both right. A trapper has a season on them but a landowner may hunt but not trap a Badger year round.

Its under the Wildlife Regulation

You are right bear the only animal you can trap on private land year round is beaver.. Everything has a season and badgers can't be trapped even if you are the landowner, but just like coyotes they can be shot..

All fur bearers have an actual trapping season when you can use traps if these animals are listed as pests they can only be shot.
No need to jump all over a guy for pointing out the regs.

You can either set a conniber trap over the hole and put a box over the hole to help keep the light out and this will help the badger go right into it.I also heard if you place the trap on the ground inside the box off set to the hole,when the badger walks around looking for a place out and step in the trap.i choose to just set the trap over the hole and wait.I had a badger giving me grief for a month and twice he set the trap off with out getting in it and then once he piled a bunch of dirt up and closed his hole off and dug a new way out.So I set a trap on his new hole and no luck.He then re-opened his old hole and then I set up the second trap,Well after a month he finally got caught.He was a Boone and Crockett.He was an old badger very tough to skin,26 1/2" from nose to base of tail and a 11 inch neck.Most rutting white-tails have 22 inch necks.Now I know why it took a month.

A badger is an animal that spends a great deal of time during the trapping season in hibernation, and many springs, if not most springs the badgers are not yet active before the trapping season ends... very stinky.

You do the work, you locate the beautiful, fully prime badger, you go to the trouble of setting a trap on the animal and then spend money on fuel checking the trap. Then the season ends and you are left standing there looking stupid because another stupid law is in force.

120 to 130 days asleep in the hole is not unusual.
