Just purchased my new boat and planning brake in outboard motor on Monday. Anyone know which lake is completely no ice right now and safe to wet my boat?
Thank you:sHa_shakeshout:

I can suggest some lakes around here - but that might be a 6 hours drive from you ......... maybe indicate where you are ......

I'm not 100% sure - But If you are in Edmonton, most of the lakes should be ice free by now. I'd check the Wabamun sailing club's live webcam and head out there if it looks wide open.

Thank you. I'm in Edmonton and forgot to put my location. Was too excited about my boat:sHa_shakeshout:

I'll take a drive out to Pigeon this weekend and report back. Hot and windy should mean a free lake.

Pigeon looks a lot like wabamun does. Wizard lake was getting close to being ice free as of Thursday. I believe that the ice is gone now but I did not check tonight. I will take a peek tomorrow and let you know.

Everything looks like that up here too (Slave Lake area), even Mitsue Lake is still iced up pretty thoroughly and its usually the first to go, sometimes by a fair bit. I would predict that the ice may not be off Slave for May long. Does anyone know how the smaller pothole lakes are doing? Might need to do a road trip.

Thank you guys. Sounds like I can break in my motor this coming monday. Hope I can go to Carson lake then I can do little fishing while I doing the break in procedure .

Yep, not a chance yet. Pigeon only has about 100 feet of open water. Probably another week yet I would guess. Will be good for opening day.

Lakes around the Boyle, Lac La Biche, Athabasca area still have lots of ice, turning grey and rotten looking though. Open around edges a little now.

With the wind last night the ice is on the move on Lac Ste Anne.

Calling Lake East side ice is tight to shore. Some open leads and cracks, and lets hope we do not get open water on the east side this year until it all melts.

Few years ago about 500 foot of open water allowed 6 miles of ice to start moving on a strong west wind and it came ashore similar to what happened at St. Anne this weekend.

Wow those pictures are insane... looks like potential for some serious damage. I have never seen that before, but I have also never owned lakefront property...

Seems to happen at Ste. Anne fairly regularly. As well as most other big lakes although Ste. Anne is a bad one for having houses right down close to the waters edge on the windswept side.

Whoa! I've never seen Ste. Anne like that and my family has had a cabin on the water there longer than I've been alive.
But my grandparents were saying there was ice up/in the boat house which is ablut 4' above and 8' in from the shore typically.
Looks crazy, hopefully it will all be cleared up come the long weekend. Gotta get the hoist and boats in.

WOW those St. Anne pics are crazy!!

I got a couple of PMs about Wab ice (not from the OP). It's gone. There was still ice on the east end on Tuesday and I have not seen that side since then but it definately SHOULD be gone there too. Not sure about ice building / boat launch access.

Just keep in mind the water is very cold (I was in it this morning ... so that's a for sure :)). The wind forecast looks a bit better for the weekend, especially Sunday. But the wind and chop can come up very quick and there will not be many (maybe any...) boats on the lake. Be careful. Not telling anyone what to do but things can change quick, I have driven to wabamun on glass and turned around and came back in 3' white caps.

Good luck, stay safe and have fun!

Last of the ice went off our lake today. Dropped the dock, lifts, and our boat in after supper.
