3 of us last Saturday, caught lots, kept 6. I don't keep fish very often, if ever. Much rather catch and release.

Went last night from shore and caught about 5 in 2 hrs with lots of bites. Kept one as I have never eaten Walleye. Seems to be lots left still although from what I was seeing it wont be long.

I went out last weekend in my little inflatable. Didn't get anything. But there were a billion other people not getting anything. Everyone and their dog was roaring around in power boats...would the noise from that spook the fish maybe? Get out early if you don't wanna fight crowds

OK get it right.

They are not done spawning and will not be eating in an aggressive manner for a while yet.

Have been out 3 times now and caught every time. But and I say But they were all small males and all and I mean all even on wed of this week were full of milk.

The spawn is not over and they will not be eager beavers till most likely end of May. Everyone knows June and onwards is when the best walleye fishing is. So all those 100 people that are lining the bank are for now just wasting money on gas to drive to PCR.

Lot of eager people just to take home 3 stunted 1 -2 pound walleye.

going fishing is never a waste of gas, good bite or bad bite

when did they put a increased limit on the walleye? it was zero since it was stocked, did that changed this year?

too bad i guess.

Yep, they changed the limit from 0 to 3 for walleye.. I guess too much people were complaining that there were too much fish in there.. now its basically the complete opposite.

I don't think it was because people were complaining ... think it's because they are coming to the end of their life cycle, and it's better to let them be harvested than wasted since they are not naturally reproducing.

They want the pike & walleye out and will be stocking rainbow trout once that happens.

Honestly, I guess that isnt a bad idea.. Having a quality trout fishery seems like a nice idea especially since the Walleye have not been able to establish themselves at PCR.

They want the walleye out because they are not naturally reproducing and take longer to grow than rainbow.

Plus they are only a few years from the end of their lives, so why let them go to waste.

If it was a healthy reproducing population of walleye they wouldn't simply kill them off to put rainbows in there.

I wonder if once the walleye are thinned out if they will start reproducing and seeing some different age classes

It could happen but I highly doubt it, they havent been able to reproduce so well since the lake introduced walleye. They are probably gonna wait for all the walleye to completely diminish and then probably stock them with Rainbow Trout.

I think it's the habitat required for them to reproduce is not available at pcr.

Think it would be nice if they put something other than the standard rainbow in there or at least make it a trophy fishery. I feel there are more than enough places you can go and take home tiny rainbows but next to nowhere where you can go get a good sized trout.

What if they stock them with trout but put a 0 limit on taking them home? Wouldnt that allow them to grow up and in a few years we would have a quality trout fishery with big trout?

Absolutely ... I would love that ... but the people would lose their minds that they couldn't keep from a stocked lake.

True. But there are a bunch of other stocked lakes around Calgary that they can go to and keep trout (Chain Lakes being a very good one)

Hopefully not before they classify them as game fish and put a reasonable limit on them.
