98 Mauser Stock

Hi all,

I recently acquired a 98 Mauser is 270 Win. It is in good condition but the wood stock has some dings and chips in it. Was thinking of getting a new stock for it. Did do some research on google and found many different options. Western Gun Parts also has a black synthetic one.

Was wondering what fellow members use/recommend when it comes to this.

They have quite a selection of stocks available for the 98 Mauser action. Now I have to try and decide which one I like the best. That's almost harder then finding a site to get one from.

There are many variations of the 98 mauser so you need to be specific when ordering a stock.......Harold

I spent quite a bit of time browsing the Boyd's site. I was looking under Mauser 98 stocks. I just happened to be browsing the list and seen they had a stock for a BRNO. I looked at my action and it has BRNO stamped in it. Sent them a quick email and they said that was the one I was looking for. Now to decide which one I like.

On the Boyd's site they give the distance between the guard screws check to be sure. I ordered a 98 stock a few years ago it came without the bolt slot cut due to many versions of custom bent/welded bolt handles nothing a rat tail file couldn't fix.

I did see the measurements. I took them and measured my rifle tonight. They all seem to be the same.

With the correct hole spacing 98 actions vary in shape FN, DWM, commercial/military...etc..usually bottom metal is the problem....RE: floorplate..in my experience...I put a Butler Creek stock on a FN Belgian Browning Safari in .308 Norma Mag and it is kinda Tupperware crude but reliable as death and taxes.........Harold

Won't have time this morning, but after work I'll post some pictures of the rifle and action and see if we can identify it further. I'm not exactly sure exactly what I have and I am very new to Mauser actions. Will post pics after work.

I'll be watching this thread and looking up Boyds. I have a Mauser 98 in .308 inherited from my uncle and grand father before him.
I wanted to lighten the rifle up a bit before last hunting season by moving into a synthetic stock, but ran out of time. Thanks for refreshing my memory!

I'll be sure to update when I get the stock installed. Does anyone know if or recommend a good gunsmith in the central Alberta area. I'm fairly confident I could install the action into the stock but I am not very good when it comes to would working. Would much rather have a professional do it just to limit headaches and mistakes.

Here are a couple quick pics of the rifle. From what I can tell it is a CZ BRNO 98 Mauser. Hopefully someone can help me in confirming this before I order a new stock. I checked all of the measurements given on Boyd's site and they all match up to my rifle. I am fairly confident I'm looking at the right stock. Also nice to have a second opinion.

Looks like an early 1950's Mauser 98 action, manufactured by CZ (Brno). The VZ24 Stamping tells the story. I believe these were near identical to the earlier model 98's, except a change in the floor plate design. The floor plate should be the same dimensions however.
So i believe the stock you are looking for will be under the BRNO Mauser 98 option. Double check with Boyds, but I'm sure you're on the right track.
