The pike conversion chart says a 47 inch fish is 29.6 lbs. not 100% accurate, but not out by 15 lbs. I would give it 30 lbs, it's a big fish.

You never know, my buddy caught a northern last year, around 37", and his scale was reading over 20lbs, and it was a lean fish, might have been all muscle! If you have a "fisherman's scale" the numbers will always be in your favor. I do believe the scale in this post is off a bit. Judging by the size of hands on the fish, it isn't a fat fish. Still a fish to be proud of.

Very nice fish - but I'd say there is no way it would even approach 30. That's a mid twenties pike.

Yeah 44lbs is kinda hard to believe that is a lot of weight for a fish that size unless he's got a gold pebble (couple) in his mouth hahahh

I seen this on Facebook. It's a nice pike no matter what. But yah it's not 44 pounds. I seen a picture of the Alberta record pike it was fat! Full of eggs. This one looks long and skinny. They wouldn't have any eggs in them this time of year correct?

I used to do index netting on Lake Ni****ing in Ontario in the 80's with the MNR. One day we had a 48" Musky and a 47" Northern in the trap net. Our job was to record the length, weight and capture area plus take scale samples prior to releasing the fish then later examine the scales under a microscope to age the fish. Our scale on board our boat went to 40 pounds. The 48" Musky buried the scale immediately to the 40lb mark and the Northern took it to 27 pounds.

That would be such an interesting job, especially on a lake of that size. Not to thread jack, but any other interesting stories from that job?

I got a few dandies but not printable on an open forum...better related to Penthouse Forum! :)

But yes sure saw some neat moments with a variety of fish and fish sizes. You never knew from day to day what you would find. The day we got the 48" Musky and the 47" Pike we also got the smallest Musky I ever saw and to this day have no idea how it even got caught in the trap as it was small enough to go through the mesh at no more than 7" long, lol. We got into a HUGE run of redhorse suckers one time. They were all about 10lbs apiece and there was not one inch of space in that trapnet. I was a pretty strong guy then at 21 years of age and I could not lift the trap alone to set the edge on the bow to open the top hatch and start dipnetting the fish out. It took two of us to stretch that trap into place on the bow.
We also got a pumpkinseed one day that was the biggest I have ever seen. It was 10" long!!

We landed a 49" pike up north in 01,it was 10"s deep,8" across its back and thick all the way through.3 cheapy scales 38-42 lbs,we released and agreed 40lbs was reasonable.The only time I wish we had iphones!

Beauty pike. 44 inches ........ maybe. 44 lbs ....... not a chance. From the photos I can see mid-20s most likely, maybe a pound or two heavier. 30 would be a real stretch. Is 44 a possibility out of Newell ..... I would not be surprised.

LOL! Yeah. That one had all kinds of locations in AB and SK. But, I think in the end it was caught at Hasse Lake right?

I'm gonna go ahead an be a Debbie Downer but a realist. That pike looks to be about 42" and about 22 lbs. And that's being generous. Perhaps if it was held up instead of hugged it might look a little different but having been fortunate enough to catch a good number of slime hogs over the years, this one isn't even close.

No way it's 44lbs... My uncle caught this 43" pike in Keeley Lake yesterday and it weighed in at 21 lbs.

Fully agree with this here, a gorgeous pike for sure.

Fact of online fish forums, posters over stated the weight. Critics under state the weight.

It is a great fish, a real shame that they had to post an aledged weight. Pic alone we all would be congratulating and celebrating a fish of that stature instead of this.
