mounting scope: clean rings?

So I'm about to mount a Leupold on my CZ452 with Talley rings, as discussed in a previous post. Thought of a question: Do you guys recommend cleaning the oil off the rings and dovetail before mounting, to make sure everything holds still as well as possible? Or does the risk of corrosion under the mounts/between the scope and the rings make that a bad idea?

Also, can anyone give me an inch/pound recommendation for tightening the screws on the Talley rings?

What are your torque recommendations?
Lightweight rings: 17-20 in/lb on ring screws.
Steel fixed rings: 30 in/lb bottom screw, 20 in/lb top screw.
Steel screw lock detachable and quick release ring: 6-48 bottom screws 30 in/lb, 10-32 screw 35 in/lb, top screws 20 in/lb.
Picatinny rings: 20 in/lb on ring, 65 in/lb on locking nut.
Base screw torque can depend on the receiver. Please check with the rifle manufacturer or call us for recommended torque.
Always make sure your torque wrench is calibrated, Talley Mfg is not responsible for damage caused to scopes due to over torquing.

I clean the mounting threads on the gun and the inside of the rings with acetone on a q tip prior to mounting

I clean off the oil that rings are packed in but never leave them acetone clean. I use Eezox on mounting surfaces and inside rings but make sure they are wiped dry. Contrary to popular belief, oil on the threads of mounting screws help keep them in place.

Torque specs for threads is based on dry threads is it not? That's my understanding. If I use liquid locktite I always lower my torque wrench a tad.

Vertically split rings can make you wish you had a 3rd hand. :)

Have a look at this video from Warne on how they mount their rings. I have a couple sets of Warne and a set of Talley's and used this method on both.

The video is for a Weaver base so ignore the recoil lug references.
It's a bit different for a rimfire with dovetail, but at about the 2 min mark he gets into the tightening sequence.

Frog Lube. Or just make sure you wipe whatever oil you have on there off.

I clean the oil off with Hoppes 9. It leaves a tiny amount of Hoppes behind and that works well as a rust inhibitor without making the rings to scope slippery. I Do the same to the ring screws and then Blue Loctite the base screws which I clean with Alcohol or Acetone first.
