As many know my fishing buddy won the fly in trip to Namur Lake in the Alberta Angler of the Year contest last year. We did a 3 day trip there this last weekend(award is 2 days, paid for a 3rd).

It was a neat experience as neither of as had been on a fly in trip before. What was also cool was that I was able to pay extra to bring my inflatable kayak up with me. Was my first time using my new Hobie i11s and it performed quite well.

With some work we found a couple good spots for lake trout. The one evening was in particularly insane fishing as we literally couldn't get our hooks to the bottom without hooking up even when using bondy baits. We didn't catch any real big lakers but the numbers were off the chart and both of use had sore arms after only 1.5 days of fishing.

The pike fishing was tougher, we saw a couple nice ones and my buddy caught a 40 incher and I lost one that would have been around the same but we worked really hard for those couple fish. Seen a couple that would have been even bigger but they didn't want to bite anything we threw at them.

Got a few neat surprises with some big burbot and also I saw some whitefish the one day so caught a few of them as well. Neat to be able to go up and catch 4 different species fairly easily.

Overall it was a fun trip and a neat experience. Here are a few pics.

No, Rod Hanson. He used to own Northern Sportsman, the sports store in ft mac.

I think he might have bought McTaggart lake lodge from Dave Cockrill in the early 90's, that might have been when he sold Namur.

McTaggart lake was awesome for monster pike and lakers. We used to fly up there with Dave before it was turned into a commercial outfit. Those were some incredible trips.
