Dear SGGC members and supporters,
1. PLEASE ATTEND:
The first reading of the Land Use Bylaw amendment that would prohibit outdoor gun ranges in areas zoned for country residential development will be taking place:
When: Tuesday, July 11th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Parkland County Office - 53109A Highway 779
Council has also extended the public input period from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. The county is expecting a big crowd, so let’s make sure we have a large group representing those of us who are opposed to this bylaw amendment. If you have anything to say to Council, please consider speaking!
If we are successful in convincing Council to vote against this bylaw amendment on July 11th, then this bylaw will have failed and will not go any further.
If, however, the bylaw amendment passes first reading, a public hearing will be held in the fall after Council’s summer break.
2. UPDATE:
On June 27th, County Councillors, who have never visited our range, took a “virtual tour” of our facility via our drone video when three of our directors presented to Council.

They were shown the layout and infrastructure of the range and we explained how the club has met and exceeded all county bylaw requirements and the Chief Firearms Officer requirements.
The video also shows how the range has been strategically designed and built to dampen noise.
3. GOING FORWARD:
WE NEED TO KEEP THIS MOMENTUM GOING!
a. LETTER WRITING
• The hardest part of writing any letter is getting started.
• We have prepared NEW easy-to-use form letters opposing the bylaw amendment, which will exclude the use of outdoor gun ranges.
• They contain the email addresses for the Mayor, Councillors and CAO together with some wording you are welcome to use as is, or to help you draft your own letter.
• Copies of these form letters are attached to this email, and they can also be found at our website http://sggc.ca/save-sggc/
• This bylaw amendment will be brought forward for first readying at the Council Meeting at 5:00pm on Tuesday July 11th.
b. PETITION
• Attached to this email is a copy of our hard copy petition opposing this bylaw amendment.
• Please sign, scan and email a copy to RangeManager@SGGC.ca.
• This petition will be presented to Council.
• We continue to see petitions rolling in daily – please consider signing, if you haven’t already!
c. VOLUNTEERING
• We now have over 80 volunteers to help on the Communications & Action Committee. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far.
• If you still want to help on the committee, just send us an email to RangeManager@SGGC.ca
