I purchased a new fly reel last year and paid a fair amount of money. I've never had a reel before I believe was worth cleaning and taking the time to maintain. Was wondering what everyone else does before the season and after every time they use the reel so that it will last for many years to come.
Thanks For the Help.

Clean the line and a little reel grease on the gears is all I do.

I am a fan of dry graphite for lube during the season. I am an outcast as I use an Perrine automatic reel; so I have to strip my reel into pieces, wipe down the spring and levers. I carry a small tube of graphite in my gear for when I have a spill and get my reel wet. My reel is a high maintenance unit so I treat it well all year. But I have been using it for over 25 years with minimal trouble. Used grease for the manual reel I had for a couple years and had no trouble but found the graphite better for the Perrine.
