Just wondering if the ice broke up yet.. my brother has the itch and its a hour and a half drive so he's been hassling me to get the scoop from this forum so if anyone has any information please pass it along.. thanks a lot guys!

ice was pretty thick there this winter, i'd think your looking at 2nd week in may before its out. heard swan is starting to open up pretty good though.

I was there in late March and I barely got through the ice without an extension on the auger. I'm guessing it's still got ice, but a report from someone who has been there recently would be nice!

how is the launch at snipe? im pulling my boat up to shaws point for may long but if it isn't open i may try somewhere close for a day or 2. any new ice reports??

Shaws points is closed to june 16 read the regs
the portion west of a line drawn from Shaw Point to the point of land in 26-74-14-W5 known as Little Grassy Point, including Buffalo Bay and the Grouard Channel & their tributaries (see also East Prairie River, South Heart River and Traverse Creek).
CLOSED – Mar. 1 to June 15
OPEN – June 16 to Feb. 28
June 16 to Oct. 31 - Walleye limit 1 over 43 cm; Pike limit 3 over 55 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10.
Nov. 1 To Feb. 28 - Walleye limit 2 over 43 cm; Pike limit 3 over 55 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10.
the remainder of the lake and outlet (Lesser Slave River) downstream to the weir below Hwy 88
Apr. 1 to May 14 – CLOSED
May 15 to Oct. 31 – Walleye limit 1 over 43 cm; Pike limit 3 over 55 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10.
Nov. 1 to Mar. 31 – Walleye limit 2 over 43 cm; Pike limit 3 over 55 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10.

HPF....Dude....relax...nothing in the regs about launching your boat at Shaw's and then driving it to the open part of the lake........


the REMAINDER of the lake (and yes, it is a BIG ASS lake) and outlet (Lesser Slave River) downstream to the weir below Hwy 88

easy there big shooter... SHAWS POINT CAMP GROUND is where im camping which is in the open part of the lake. you can tell where the boundry is by the 300 boats anchored on the point and no i will not be fishing on the wrong side of it but thanks for the concern

The launch at snipe is ok but nothing special. Probably better for smaller boats. I was out at Spring Lake out by Hythe yesterday for work and the lake is only open on a small portion on the southwest side. I expect Snipe to be about the same.

spring lake is always like that, it doesnt get any wind so it takes forever to thaw. swan is still the only open water near GP

Snipe lake is wide open , cruised the whole lake and
no ice left. caught some nice jacks , few whites,
found some perch and then the rain come. launch
is fair but will need 4x4 soon, after it is used abit.
