Hey guys just curious today I was down at prospectors point today and noticed a rope tied to a rock than another rope running out into a metal bar cage basket sorta thing, what could it be for!? Fish trap!?

I think that may be a minnow trap.

Not sure where "prospectors point" is, but there are spots on the nsr where you will find these heavy metal wire drums that are used as fish traps. I could never figure out how they pull them on to shore.

Likely bait traps. Some of us catch our own bait. Illegal to remove them as it's a legal activity. Way better to use local bait fish.

Though to be legal they do need to have contact info and fishing licence number attached. At least that's what I recall.

I would think that if it's a research trap they would have been identified as well.
