Bear Bait Recipes

I know it is early, but we go spring bear hunting every year and i am looking to buy beavers to stick in my bait barrels. As well as beavers i am looking for any other recipies people have used in bait barrels that have been successful.

While I've got a bit of a 'secret mix' that I like to use, some of the things that seem to work really well are oats, molasses, dohnuts, dog food, grains, breads, etc, etc....

I like having something stinky like beavers, muskrats, meat scraps, etc to provide a good scent, and then good grainy foods to keep them coming back for more....

popcorn, popcorn, and more popcorn!! with 5 to 8 bears per site a 45 gallon drum would last almost 2 weeks. easy to take in because of the little weight, and no mess. two pails of fish guts to get the stink out, and one big beaver hanging 8 foot from the ground to get a gauge on the size of the bears hitting. take care boys, rob

Put a beaver carcass into an inner tube, tied off at both ends, and hang it out in upper branches in your hunting area in late March. Let it stew for a couple of weeks, and then drive by with your quad, and shoot each container with your .22. The drippings draw bears from a long way away, and keep them there.

Deep fry grease.
Brown bag dog food, no name pancake syrup, and a dash of vanilla extract.

Not trying to stir things up.....but
Doen't using human related food to bait bears associate man with food and potentially cause a problem bear?
Working in the forest industry I encounter many baits (marked and unmarked), that are near areas where humans frequent and potentailly pose problems.

If you keep them well fed they are happy bears and don't cause problems.HAHAHAHAHA:eek :eek

Why do you think we have rules about sinage of bait sites, and requirements to the same about removing them at the end of the season.
If your running accross un marked bait sites, you best be calling 1-800-642-3800.

There are no documented cases of active bair baiting resulting in poor relations between bruins and humans.
Actually I know of one fellow that sets a bait up(yes signed) and effectively intercepts bears before they actually get to a private campground. Insidentally he heard the campground was having bear problems and set up his bait at the request of the operators. As soon as he started the bait site up the bear trouble in the campground stopped.

Not sure if this would be considered hijacking, but anyone know where a guy can get his hands on a beaver or 2?

If you were to be asked by a landowner to provide beaver control, you can get them yourself.
