I'm building a couple of DIY planer boards using a plan I found doing a search. (this one (http://www.quintefishing.com/make_your_own_dual_planer_boards.htm)) and I'm wondering what I should use for cable, will 1/16 galvanized a/c cable be too thick?

I wouldnt use cable, I would use this:

Should work for you.

I've had 130lb break on me a couple times now.. go with 200lb if you can find it. I've yet to break it.

I use lightweight (bright colored) paracord. Works great - strong, highly visible and very light weight to reduce sagging when out a long ways off the boat.
