So Bow River basin, Oldman River basin and Red Deer River basin so far.

And since it is that far it is probably already in the NSR basin and maybe even Athabasca or if not will be soon.

Impossible to stop it, and it is already clearly wide spread and must have been around for a while.

"They" being locals/analysts...who knows, but i've heard WD has been in our river systems for close to the past 20 years..

Very very few rivers have been stocked in the past decade so I doubt that is the cause.

From my understanding they weren't previously testing for whirling disease and they only started after the visible signs were noticed last year.

I am guessing it has been around for years if not decades.

I was told that the Alberta fish stocking program for pothole lakes has been cancelled for the next foreseeable future because of WD. Can anyone confirm this?

Lets say it's currently not possible to eliminate it, where it exists. Lets say the we can control the spread of it by taking measures...

What can the public do to help control the spread of the disease?
People can spread whirling disease by moving any of the following:
infected live or dead finfish,
infected worms,
contaminated equipment, or
contaminated water, aquatic plants and soil or mud.
The public should avoid transporting any of these items from one body of water to another and clean equipment between uses.

Facts don't support that. Likely hatcheries were infected from a hatchery on Lott Creek that was infected by Elbow River which was infected by Bow which was infected by Montana.

Possible. Decontamination process is expensive and time consuming. Any ponds that could have it would freak out a private hatchery. Public hatchery will likely end up expanding.

Would you be kind enough to point me in the direction of your facts. As I would like to know. The Government has be quite hush hush about this part and I while I probably don't blame them I would very much like to know.

Certainly commercial hatcheries where the first to be found positive. And perhaps I am wrong but I seem to recall a hatchery by Lacombe was the first.
