Just wondering if anyone has fished them, where, and what worked. I assume they are simmillar to fishing Lakers. Just wondering if anyone has a few tip's or is willing to share what their "Secret" lure was...lol

Thanks

I caught a 26 lb'er in 1981 in Kootenay Lake. Never been back......

It was done in January, trolling a Bill Norman plug, self-painted.

Kootenay Lake has them in it. Also Arrow Lake and most of the large lakes in the East Kootenay's. You can catch them on J plugs, Apex lures or large streamer/bucktail flies.

One thing to remember with fishing any of the lakes for Gerards is to fish way back from the boat. 150 to 200 feet is comon.

If your fishing down riggers then once you spot fish then fish 10 feet above them. I don't know if this is nessary. But this is one thing my dad always did and he had lots of success doing it.

I troll streamers just below the surface at 2.1 mph.(make sure the streamer stays upright at all times.
With plugs I troll at 1.8 mph and troll 35 to 60 ft during the day and go down to 90ft late evening.
Best time to fish middle of May to middle of June.
Hope this helps.

Apex trolled slow about 5-10 above the fish has worked on Trout lake and Upper arrow for us in the past.
