My cousin owned that place but sold it a few years ago. People came from far and wide for that pizza.

In Edmonton I go to for Versato's (Verns)pizza and get the Versato's special, Apollo Pizza and Westlock is great pizza too.

One of the best pizzas I had was ar L&W in hinton, but only once - the next time we went in there the pizza was just so so..

The back story is we pulled into hinton and the power was out - the gas pumps werent working and we had to wait around.

Well the owner says the only thing he can cook is pizza, and the restraunt was empty - so the owner cooked a pizza for us and it was awesome. The next time we went in there it was nothing special - so disapointed.

Big difference between an owner cooking pizza when he has the time, nd the staff cooking when they are busy

The 2 for 1's in Vegreville and Devon are pretty decent.

The sauce is the secret, in my opinion. I don't know what they do in Vegreville....maybe a little cinnamon, but the owners in Devon are devoting time and energy to developing a number of different sauces, including a meat sauce. They also have BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, and donair sauce options.

Was in Kimberley this last weekend on a golf trip. New restaurant there called Stone Fire Pizzeria.

Baked in our 900 degree Stefano Ferrara wood fired masonry oven our Neapolitan style pizza is like no other, crispy and charred at the crust, yet soft in the centre. It is typically meant to be eaten with a knife and fork or torn, folded and eaten by hand and like everything else, it's best enjoyed with friends and family!

I know it's not Alberta but very tasty indeed!

Very valid point as Berger stated. I’m in the same camp as you. Not once sober. Chicago Deep Dish was also a 3AM staple. Until the Pizza 73 just south of Whyte by the cop shop was discovered. We were there often enough that the manager would give us a ride home after we finished ingesting the booze sponge. Shameful times. My god. Sorry for the derail OP.

Another vote for Derwent pizza. Also they still serve the beer with alcb glasses, and still have the terrycloth round bartable covers. Like going back in time about 30 years or so. Great motorcycle day trip out from Edmonton through Two Hills, stop at Derwent for lunch then trip it back. Same goes for out of Lloydminster. Lots of snowmobilers head out from Vermilion during the winter to have lunch at Derwent as well.

Not what it use to be. Especially considering you'll probably get mugged walking in.

Versatos gets my vote. How do you argue with a great crust loaded with meat toppings shaved thin and fresh sauce creating a pizza that weighs 1lb per slice?

It has no business being a pizza. No person should have considered doing it.
And yet, it was fabulous. Might be my new favorite pizza. The crust was really good as well, which the only other place I enjoy crust is Two Guys and a Pizza Place in Lethbridge.

Orlando's 1 in Castledowns in E-town is by far the best I've had. Can't say it's the best in the province since i haven't had pie from every single place but it is REAL GOOD Pizza!

If you live on the north side of Edmonton you owe it to yourself to try it out.

I know it's sort of like arguing that McDonalds has the best burgers in the world, but I have a special place in my heart of Pizza Hut. I love that buttery/oily crust.

Here's a tip regarding some "sorta-pizza". Safeway carries premade flatbreads that are cheap and amazingly good For something different try the one with honey, walnuts, arugula, and gorgonzola cheese. Deli section, not frozen.

Possibly the worst pizza made.

Little Caesars $5 pizza = Worst feces ever.

I'll let you the next time I head there.

The mac 'n' cheese - it's like this;
It has no business being a pizza. No person should have considered doing it.
And yet, it was fabulous. Might be my new favorite pizza. The crust was really good as well, which the only other place I enjoy crust is Two Guys and a Pizza Place in Lethbridge.

Thanks for the mention!
Cheers

Oh you got the pizza! Lol

I was talking about the other one, the real Mac n cheese with bacon, then baked with mozzarella on top.

I used to work at a Little Caesars for 3 years. It was my first job. If you can get a fresh pepperoni, they are pretty good. If it sits more than half an hour it tastes like the box. I always got a kick of the guys that ordered a pepperoni for delivery. The cost went from $5 to $12 for the exact same pizza, with the cheese layered differently.

Out on highway 9 just north of Oyen there was an Esso truck stop... dont know if its still there, but the restaurant there had pizzas that I still fondly remember after twenty some odd years.

Pizza restaurant is now in town and is still good.

Derwent pizza is the best pizza. Plus their prices are low for the quality. Worth the drive to eat there.

We like Nitzas in Sherwood Park. The chicken ranch is great! There are two locations. The one on Ridgeway is the best. He does a ton of community support too.

Tillys in Tofield is good to. Used to order from there when we were passing through.

Good to know! Whats the name of it now, for future reference?

Edit: A quick Google search comes up with Halfway Pizza's Facebook page. Based on the reviews Im guessing this must be it. Pizza fans owe it to themselves to check it out if its anything like it used to be.

Verns pizza. Takeout, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Prince Albert.

Had the meat lovers a few weeks ago. Holy cow a lot of meat, I really enjoyed it. Wife had the lasagna though, said it was terrible. Can't keep everyone happy.

Ahh... thank you! Totally missed it.

I've tried that place. They pile it on. It's thick and the cheese is easy to eat. Sauce is good. Definitely a good one!

Cochrane AB, still waiting nothing really worth mentioning.
Edmonton region has way more none chain options for all kinds of foods.
For example Mama pizza, royal pizza, Miami pizza back in the day, st Albert steak and pizza used to be great.

Top of the list for Pizza and steak so far

Papa Baldy’s in Red Deer. Their Mac and cheese is bomb.

Just got a notice that this restaurant will be close until further notice as Papa Baldy has passed. :(

I keep running across small town pizza places that blow me away.

Sals Famous Pizza and Donair - Gibbons
Pauls Pizza and Steakhouse - Airdrie

What other hidden gems have you guys found?

The Original ( Lolondale) Capital Steak and Pizza in North Edmonton. Easily the best pizza I have ever had. Been coming here since I was a kid.

I find it depends who is cooking that day and how busy they are. There are places I really liked the pizza but then you go there and either get a burned crust or they forgot to put all the toppings on. Maybe Calgary chief is right do it yourself and you won't be disappointed.

Calgary - Reas Italian and LaLuna Rosa

Bon Accord Chelsea's

Edmonton - Tony's and The Italian shop on 170 St and 87 Ave

Edson - Mountain Steak and Pizza

Hinton - Mountain Steak and Pizza

Slave Lake - Alimos

Grande Prairie - Firecrust Nepoliatana

Spirit River/Rycroft - Mike's Wheel Inn

Peace River - Mr Mikes

Cold Lake - North Side Pizza

Medicine Hat - Western Pizza

Since you resurrected it thought I would say my votes haven't changed. Only one I would add is Guissepis on 82 st 137 ave Edmonton. Makes a great thicker crust heavy topping pizza.

I got the second location for Mountain Steak and Pizza wrong, it is in Whitecourt, not Hinton.

There was a few votes for Capital pizza 144 ave 89 St Edmonton. Had great pizza for decades. The last few years the Pizza and all their food has really gone downhill. Their old cook is now cooking at Guissepies on 82 St and 132 ave.

One more for the list, tried the Blaze Pizza by Cabela's North. It is really good. Nice crust, quick cooked in a wood pizza oven.
