View Full Version : What is a multi calibre rifle?

I've been around firearms for quite a while, but I've never run across a 'multi-calibre' rifle. Unless somebody loaded the wrong ammo in it. Am I just ignorant of a common new thing? Or is this the most abysmal reporting involving a firearm I've seen in a while?

http://edmontonjournal.com/news/crime/man-who-brandished-rifle-at-busy-intersection-pleads-guilty-to-weapons-charges

On Tuesday, Ironchild admitted to possession of a firearm without a licence, using a rifle in a careless manner, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while being prohibited from doing so, and possession of a multi-calibre rifle knowing its serial number had been altered.

And I'm not even going to comment on the story other than this.

Over under 20guage / .22 ??? Doubt that's what they're referring to but maybe....

If you look at the facebook picture he posted of himself posing with the rifle, it is a single barreled rifle (looks like a Savage? hard to tell). Not multi barrelled anyway.

That's interesting, and does answer the question. But pretty sure he didn't have anything that esoteric either.

Best guess would be a rifle with a barrel swap system. Pretty unlikely he had a over/under with a scope.

Side note, did EPS ever get on the ar15 program?

Down near the bottom of the article, it reads -

Court also heard that less than an hour before going to the intersection, Ironchild posted a video to his Facebook profile under the name Occo Ironchild that showed him holding the rifle that was later recovered at the intersection.

If you go to his FB page, that video appears to have been removed, but there are several photos of him with guns,
but none appear to be "multi-calibre"

I'm guessing the reporter somehow read the charges wrong. No big deal

Is this what they mean by multi-caliber?

I'm going with this one. As most of us have noticed I'm sure, one of the biggest problems with the media and the anti gun groups is lack of education.

My Robinson XCR's say "multi-caliber" on the lower receivers :)

Pretty sure XCR stands for "eXchangeable Caliber Rifle"

But, ya I would say they read the charges wrong because having and XCR is legal (for now). :)

It's clearly a reporting mistake. Think about it... would it be illegal to file the serial number off a "multi-caliber" rifle but be legal to do that with any other sort of rifle? Makes no sense. The reporter or the cops screwed up.

Well, now that we have addressed it as a reporting issue (and I did post a link up there to the pic of him on facebook)....we can now progress to:

What was he doing in an intersection pointing the rifle at vehicles and buses, and then at a police officer??? I don't ever want to be on whatever he was! Jesus.....

Had to be high as a kite. Or just exercising his aboriginal hunting rights in an urban setting.

Though article didn't say, I would assume the gun wasn't loaded, or they would have had some much more serious charges in there, like attempted murder.

On the bright side, good to see that police firearms training is producing results and that he hit the stationary subject at twenty five yards on only the third shot. ;)
