I headed down to McKinnon Flats yesterday for a few hours to try to catch some trout; I had no luck. There were a few other people down there, but it looked like no one was having any luck. The water didn't look too turbid, I could still see the rocks below. I was stuck to the shore line due to one of my boots having a hole in it. Seems to me that there is not alot of good "places" down there that trout like to hide out. Without hip waders I couldnt get my lure out in the water too far. Is it pointless casting off the shore for trout?

I was also wondering if anyone had tried out Chestermere yet this season? I am thinking of going down there today since I don't have hip waders yet, and catch some Perch or Pike.

i have caught many trout from the shores of the bow, sometimes you just have to keep moving until you find the active fish - be sure your lure is at the bottom too

good luck

I don't think Chestermere is full yet, they started filling wednesday and they were having problems with flow, on Friday night it was still 6 feet lower than it should. By today, it "should" be full enough. Try fishin on the very south end on the dike, cast out from there. Should be lots of pike action, I can catch them there non stop with 5 of diamonds spoon.

On my third cast I thought I felt a tug on the line, but I think it was just the lure skipping off the rocks. So I want the lure on the bottom  Now I know.

This spot you say at the south end of the dike, looks perfect!! Thanks for that tip! I like nonstop action! Even If I don't take any home to eat.

Now im really on the fence; go back to The Bow or check out Chestermere.

Where abouts is the dike? Looking at a google satalite image of chestermere right now. where abouts is it in relation to the highway? Thanks. never fished Chestermere before.

The water has to be very very close to being up to level. Fishing is good.

I went to this exact location this afternoon for about 2 hours, nabbed 3 pike. 63cm limit. Kept one. The frying pan is heating up...

that looks like a good spot Mustang.I have caught many pike just north of there through the ice in years past. I always thought it would be weed choked in open water?

It can get that way in late summer, but right now until July it should be good. Was there last night for exactly an hour before dark, used a medium sized 5 of diamonds, 8 pike, one was easily over 3 cms and a couple was close. Didn't bring anything to measure but I wouln'd have kept any anyway. All C&R for me for pike. The wife even caught a couple which means it has to be easy LOL.

you can try the canals in chestermere too. We go near the railroad tracks by the little dam thing, fish right under the dam, tons of fish. We always catch 8 or 9 each, every outing. And they seem to bit just about everything you throw at em. We catch them on everything from a rapala rattler, to a white jig. Not huge fish, but still fun to fight with

Its on the inlet canal, if you look at that google map that mustang left, and its directly to the left in that canal of where his spot is, and you can see where the train track bridge is. just fish inbetween that bridge and the little dam thing which you can also see in that google map.

Makes sense, there should be lots of food there coming off the dam.

Damn, tried the spot mustang posted tonight, 5 of diamonds, not a bite. My buddy caught a little one on a red devil in that spot tonight though, but not much action otherwise. Will be trying there again soon
