Well the Caribou up by GP had his journey cut short by some POS. He was shot by Valleyview and abandoned. I’ll post pictures shortly.

I sure hope they catch the person or persons and prosecute them to the full extent of the law. I was lucky enough to get a trail cam pic of this bull in his journey which some how makes it a little more personal for me. Again i hope F and w catch the looser and charge him with every thing they can. https://instagram.com/p/BZ9h5InHXY7/

That is sad, i see the pic of the hole, maybe it was hit by a truck....long shot..:( . sad deal all around. Met a few hooker babies that called elk caribou, they were not hunters....
Likely shot on private property too. Really sad. Used to think other people out hunting were my people, like minded, respectful, conservative minded people that followed the rules and cared about the future. I am sad to say, i have been proven wrong too often. Disgraceful

Grrrrr, that frosts me.

Back in the late 80's I found a black garbage bag with caribou hooves and hide in it. At least those a-holes took the meat.

You do this to an animal and it will come back to haunt you when you least expect it and you may watch yourself decompose in the same shape this carlbou is now in and wonder who put you down and it won't be by a human hand.

That's a terrible end to this sega of an out of place caribou. It's unjust and in no doubt brought on at the hands of someone without appreciation or an ethical merit towards animals. Perhaps it would be useful to know where this bull was found and date. Any details may spark someone's memory recalling something suspicious.

I doubt that someone thought this was an elk. More than likely someone that is trigger happy and kill crazy. These are not hunters but nothing more than scum.

Decades ago there was a clown near GC who shot one, tagged it as an elk, AND PROUDLY BROUGHT IT HOME. It was only when his friends told him what it was did he realize. Turned himself in and got a hefty fine, even for back then, if I remember right.

And the media isn't making a stink about it..... but shoot a legal lion...... where are SJWs?

I hope the land owners cameras have good evidence.

IMO these are the most beautiful ungulates in the world. It's a shame we don't have healthy numbers to support hunting. And as long as this type of thing keeps happening, we never will.

Sad to see. Like the black horses killed every year by people thinking it's a moose. What a shame

Funny you should say that. When I showed this to my wife she said something similar about the horse we knew about. Unfortunately the bou aren't so easily replaced. Reminds me of a junior high student in gp that told me his dad had shot several in the area.
It's a shame the caribou aren't recovering and some loser did this

I was having my antelope checked at a Montana game check when a fellow stopped to have his mule deer doe checked. He actually argued when everyone pointed out it was a llama. LOL

Poached or run over this is still a sad end to a cool story.

This made me laugh... then feel ashamed I'm part of the human species

They caught the guy.

$6500 fine and a 5 year ban in Sask and AB.

Buddy said he shot it thinking it was an elk. The penalty is not near enough IMO and this guy is a complete idiot.

That is all. What a shame. Lifetime ban would have been better. If he doesn't know what an elk looks like he shouldn't be hunting.

Is there any info on the perpetrator? Road hunting is the main mode of hunting around there, or at least it was 6 years ago when I left. Lots of poaching by both locals and guys from out of town.

Edit: I did a Google search and came up with Matthew Chislett of Saskatchewan, who confessed earlier this year. Sounds like a Valleyview resident turned him in. I wonder if his hunter host will also get fined.

Kind of looks like an elk in the picture, except for the color, and the antler configuration....and the fact that I've known what animal is on a Canadian quarter since I was five!

I had no idea there was caribou that far south. But I only hunt south of the NS river.

Careful what you say. There are fellers on this forum that can't tell the difference between a black bear and a grizzly bear, or a mule deer and a whitetail deer. They call them hybrids now! :free-scared-smileys

Reminds me of story of a lady hunter that shot her elk. The F & W officer that was riding it kept arguing it was a horse. He got tired of arguing with her and said "Lady you can keep your elk, just let me go retrieve my saddle".

I agree that the perp should have gotten a hunting lifetime ban, especially for hunting in Alberta if he was from out of province. We don't need careless/trigger happy people like this running around here. Another shame like the Muskox up North recently, very few around. I assume this Caribou was killed last fall during an open elk season?
