Was about to mix up a tank of gas/oil for my chainsaw and got to thinking: can I use my 25 litres of mixed boat motor oil/gas. Both are 50 to 1. The boat oil is good grade Johnson oil. What do you think? BEL

I've been wondering the same thing, but knew that outboard oil was different.
According to this link, it's not a good idea.

Dang you learn something everyday. Always thought 2 cycle oil was 2 cycle oil for whatever. I have never owned a boat motor.

I'll mix the Sthil oil fresh for my 2 stroke power equipment. Leftover at end of season will go into my 2 stroke outboard tank with a little stabilizer.

I guess that answers that. Thanks very much for the info. BEL

Tcw3 for outboard motors is meant to burn totally at lower temps and lower rpm. This is because they need to burn extra clean since the exhaust goes into the water. This oil isn’t suitable in chainsaws and other air cooled equipment because of the much higher temps and high rpm. It can’t handle it. If you run oil made for air cooled applications in an outboard motor you’ll likely end up with build up since it never gets hot enough to totally burn up.
