What a great day yesterday was for me. It was the first time I have ever got to hunt with my son. For a father this is a day I’m sure we have all dreamed about. At least for me it has been since he was born. My son Ryland is 2.5 years old so when my buddy invited me out for my first evening goose hunt it was easy for me to say yes and cancel my solo deer hunt. An evening goose hunt was the perfect opportunity to take my son along as my buddy was bringing his two little boys as well.

I’m proud to say my little guy was a natural. We sat from 4-6:30 with no issue and for a 2.5 year old this is nothing short of a Miracle haha. He had so much fun setting up the decoys or at least knocking them over while I set them up haha. He calls them silly gooses!!

Then he really enjoyed practicing his goose calls (so cute to watch) and he did really well when I said to him ok Ryland don’t move birds are coming. He remained still and quite. Good job son!!! We ended up with 11 birds with way more than that flying around us but as it is this time of the year they are harder to get to commit.

Here are some pics of a day that he and I will never forget.

That is truly awesome, man! Years to come!

P.S. Hope all the little ones had their ears plugged (or covered) appropriately.

The pic with the three boys in the blind is priceless. The boys could be the videographers until they are old enough to hunt.

You bet Bub I had ear muffs I would put on him as the geese got closer. Safety first :)

This thread is Awesome, it brought back some very old memories of hunting with my dad for the first time, I was 12 years old, I loved getting up early and getting ready for the day... You sir are going to enjoy hunting more and more as your little man learns the ropes... Very happy for you and your little hunting buddy!

Congrats, Nuge! I started taking my kids hunting at a young age as well, and they still jump at the chance to head out with me. Good times!

Wishing you many more happy outings like this one!

My son is 19 and were chasing bullwinkle on his first draw. He has been coming with me and his opa since about 4 yrs old. Fun looking at your pics and reminds me of times gone by. Great thread.

I have nothing against two people wanting to enjoy just each other forever. It's been my experience (4 kids) that life is richer with kids. It's crazier for sure, hands down. Wouldn't trade it for the alternative, myself. Not for everyone though

Great story...just FYI it only continues to get better. I just spent three days of pheasant hunting with my oldest who in now 39. These times together are unbeatable. Our pics are in a post I put up today on the Taber Pheasant Festival.

Love the red ryder in the blind. My oldest would bring his and after the volley we'd hear "sproing" as he'd launch one last BB. He always claimed the cripples that made it out aways before falling, "thats the one I shot at!".
Just like every other goose hunting partner I've had lol.
Ten years later he's still claiming to be a better shot than me but i fear now it may be the truth.
