I'm going on a trip up north in a deer heavy zone. There is three of us. I've always taken deer home and this zone allows 2 sup tags.

1. How high up do you hang to avoid predator messing with your deer.
2. Is a single layer game bag sufficient?
3. How do you hang your deer?

I have a few ideas but want your opinions.

Thanks guys.

What zone allows 2 supp tags?
Hang it about 10 ft off and you should be good, unless u got big grizz there. Then go 12 ft. 1 quality bag should be enough

Probably the biggest problem you're going to have is the magpies and whiskey jacks. You won't have to hang it very high as long as it's out of the dirt. Any animal I've ever hung was by the hind legs preferably as wide as you can get it. I haven't use those game bags so I can't say yay or nay. I suppose that they might be handy for if it rains or snows and it might keep the meat clean of pine needles and whatever else might fall on it.

Good luck.

When i first started we used block and tackle ,after we found a suitable location.
If the animal was skinned cheese cloth was used, always in november when it was below zero.
The only potential issue during that time were scavengers ,birds mostly..

After the game was dressed and bagged [cheese cloth ]a tarp was sometimes draped over the game. When reflecting on other things we did i understand why i enjoyed Red Green.

Hang in the shade, keep open during the night to cool down, cover with a tarp loosely during the day.

For deer, I usually gut it out not far from where it went down, then drag it over to a tree. Throw a fp dog-leash, or climbing cord with knotted loop in one end and an alpine butterfly loop in the middle, around the trunk or branch as high as I can get it and tighten it up. Same kind of cord at the base of the tree.

Put a rope end through a light pulley then a second pulley which is attached to a gambrel, put a knotted loop in the end of the rope. Snap a carabiner through that end and then into the high dog leash ring. Snap another carabiner into the first pulley and up into the dog leash ring.

Put on the gambrel, hoist him up, and tie off the rope in the lower cord. Skin, quarter, and then maybe cape it like that, putting the quarters into gauze bags. Salt the hide & roll it up into another bag or just tie it. Then pack it all out or cart it out the same evening. If I want the cape & head I have to leave that hoisted overnight if I'm packing; it's just too much. No problem with the cart.

I try to draw the line for a kill sometime after 3, so I don't have to walk back in darkness. If I blow past that, I'll hang the bags in trees as high as I can get them a ways from the skinning & the gut pile. Dump a whole bunch of black pepper all over the bags. Come back the next morning.

For a bigger animal, I'll be with a few more people and maybe a quad, so it varies. But the bags are great.

Im guessing you're talking about hanging game at camp.

Gutless, bag bone in legs individually, boneless meat in one bag.

Take a 2x4 (or similar sized branch) and make the necessary number of rope loops about 16 inches apart. Thread a rope through each loop. Use some climbing sticks, pick two trees, climb up and tie the cross piece between them at least 10 ft up. Tie off each leg, around the lower joint and over the game bag, to each rope. Pull to hoist, then tie off.

Don't use white or yellow rope, bears seem to have figured that out in some places. I use camo paracord. Can use a tarp over the cross piece to keep the sun off.

Mind the temperature and if it's going to get too hot or too cold, head for home.

Not to mention 350, 352, 353, and 355 as well as 440-446. Given the large number of zones it should be more or less common knowledge that both tags can be used, otherwise they would only give you one tag :thinking-006:
