Took my 8 year old daughter pheasant hunting a few weeks back. I had great time. I don't think she did! We spent more time looking at birds nest, tracks in the snow, old rusted out farm equipment. I think if we would have found more birds she would have enjoyed herself more. I won't push her going forward, but will always ask her to come along with Dad!

I'm thinking of getting her a Daisy Ryder in pink and maybe shooting a few cans or targets might get her more interested.

When did you start taking him? I'd like to take my son but he is 2.5 and I think he is to young for anything aside from a scouting.

Not my kid but my 10 year old niece has been getting into hunting with since she was 8. Last year we took a nice WT buck and mule doe, this spring a beauty of a black bear. So far this fall we have put the smack down in some duck and geese. November will a cow moose so she’s pretty pumped, think I may have a new permanent partner.

This fall I took my three boys age 6, 8 and 10 out hunting. I do it every year but usually one at a time. This time I took all three. We had a good time but between all the farting, giggling and snacking it’s tough to get an animal.
A few years ago I took my oldest two to camp Wainright. We actually got a pretty decent buck and it was a great time. That is a good opportunity for a non-serious Hunt. Plus the people there were very supportive and helpful and of course the waterslide was fun.
This spring my oldest son took a bear on our land and that was an exciting experience for all people involved.
They probably have the most fun gopher hunting in the spring. Lots of action, lots of snacks.

So far I've been out every weekend except thanksgiving and the only person I've hunted with is my son, well my Dad came for a grouse hunt with us one day, but that's about it. He's been with me stalking moose and elk with archery tackle since he was 5yrs old. Obviously he wasn't packing a bow until he was 10, but now that he's 15 he's got a pretty good grip on how to hunt so our odds are going up.

Went out with the 13 year old a few weeks ago and again last weekend scouting.

Still need to take the 16 year old but he's hard to pry away from a computer or iPad.

I always get out with my sons for a couple weekend hunts and last year was the first time I took my 10 yr old daughter. I was really surprised at how interested she was and how fun she thought it was even thought we hiked 4 or 5 pretty hard miles!

Just put the box blind on stilts yesterday. Will sit in it with the kids a few times next week hoping to get my daughter a decent whitetail buck. She's got a bull elk and a nice muley the last couple years so hopefully we are successful!

My dog is my kid. He hunts with me, as long as we're after birds or bunnies. No vember will be a different story.I spend enough time around human children during the week. The weekend in my refuge.

I've been taking the oldest grandson out since he was 5 and this November he turns 16. The little guy has been tagging along "hunting" since he could ride along. He just turned 6 this year. The best hunting trips I have been on included either one or the other, or both of them and for the most part, it's not only the hunt that was enjoyed by all, but just being with them and watching them discover what nature has to offer.

Taking my 13 year old out to 206 next week, muley tags. He's been on walkabouts before with me while hunting but this is his first opportunity to harvest an animal. Should be fun.

I started taking him when he was around 2.5 he brings his toy gun, binos, and elk bugle. But we usually dont end up doing much walking. Bout a half hr is all he can take, then he is cold and wants to go back to the truck. Then we usually drive around and see how many critters we can see. Its a good time, just a matter if time until lady luck rolls around and I shoot something when he is there.

Started taking the kids along (alone as well as all together) pretty much as soon as they could walk.

It's always been fun and special. And now that they are doing their hunting exams and WIN cards, one by one, it's getting even more exciting.

Good times! I love it.

Took my 7 year old out bow hunting for elk. Arrowed a bull at 25 yards after he ripped a huge bugle right in front of us. Best hunting day ever. He also comes deer and pheasant hunting and loves it

Daughter has hunted with me for 7 years now. This year is her first year hunting (now 12) very exciting. Soon to be 8 yr old boy is a different story, he is to busy and would get bored. Plus to busy with hockey. Great to have the kids out there learning properly.

My 15 year old daughter has completed the hunter safety course and has her WIN but she hasn't come hunting with me this year. We have been to the range and she does well with her 308 win. She is in honours science classes and wants to focus on studying this year. Fair enough. Sigh.

Now that you talk about it, I might have to go on ebay or etsy and buy me a couple of kids to take hunting...

Don't worry kids can miss a weekend of hockey games or practice to go hunting with their dad. Its not like he is is NHL material. Will get way more out of hunting with dad for a day or weekend are my thoughts.

Good point. Kids are over scheduled these days anyway. Good to get them away.

I have two daughters age 14 and age 9 . My elder daughter has completed her hunter safety course successfully. She also got drawn for Mule Deer in wmu 230.

I am taking both of daughters to hunt with me since more than 7 years. Both of my daughter like to sit with me when i butcher any wild meat in my garage.

I have taken my second oldest son who is 9 out bird hunting for several years, and this year will be the first year to take him along deer hunting. I don't think we will be able to put on too many miles, but I have a blind set up with a chair and will keep him entertained with some snacks, his own binos and the "can" doe call for him to operate to keep a look out! More important to me that I spend the time with him than it is to get an animal. We will see what happens. Oldest isn't that interested, youngest daughter might take it up I am hoping.

Took my 2.5 year old son out hunting the other day. He took ten steps then rattled, ten steps then rattled, And he whispered the whole time in excitement for a big buck!! All the morning hunting shows an experience in the woods are paying off! Never to young!
