My son and I were fishing the NSR over the weekend.

I could not believe the garbage along the bank.

Some of it was from fishermen...bait boxes, etc.

But a lot had just washed up on shore due to the fluctuating river levels.

And then this....

Most of the garbage we saw along the river was plastic.

Just brutal for the wildlife!! :angry3:

Typical of the NSR River, people have 0 respect! you can argue that it is due to it flowing right through a large city, but the Bow river is nothing like the NSR.

Thanks for posting, much more awareness needed. I’ve gotten in to the habit of always carrying a garbage bag with me as i know that virtually everywhere I go to fish I will surely encounter someone else’s mess. There is usually always a garbage can near a boat launch to use or I cart it home and dispose of it there. If we all cared enough to pick up after ourselves and/or for someone else less responsible our pursuit of outdoors enjoyment would be a whole lot better. Be a better steward of the environment everybody, a little bit of extra care and effort goes a long way.

My hat is off to the angler that caught and carefully removed that garbage.

I try to remember a trash bag when I go out, I forget sometimes. Then I just grab a few of the bigger pieces to throw in the truck.

Typical of all our waters. Except remote lakes....

One of my usual hauls from a trip to the highwood this fall. Seems there's more every time I go, even if it's just the next day. Cans, towels and flip flops are most common.

I also find it frustrating and annoying when people either don't clean up after themselves or go out of their way to dispose of their garbage in nature. It shows a huge lack of respect.

People that do that should face serious corporal punishment...caning..or horse whipping. There is absolutely no reason to litter and dump your garbage all over the place. I have zero tolerance for this.

MANY Years ago i use to fish legends area quite often. Spent many times picking up garbage and needles. I even brought a metal garbage bin and locked it to a post. About a month later the barrel was used for a fire and ended up in the river. Havnt been to that area since.

F&W has a camera out there. I wonder if anything ever comes from those pictures.

I also used to fish Legends and remember taking several garbage bags out that area. We even filled the back of my truck one time. Its a shame people cant keep the area clean.

Sad to say but Legends isn't the only spot that the pigs like to roam

I jet boat up and down the nsr all summer. Stop at lots of areas to fish and what not. It’s sad to see the garbage left. I usually have at least an extra grocery bag full of garbage at the end of the day. The worst spot I have seen is by the bridge at Drayton Valley, there’s a rocky area just up from the bridge good fishing spot. The amount of beer cans and bait containers is crazy.
