Run your transducer cable on the opposite side than that of your main power connection to the helm to reduce interference from that source. Try to place the transducer as far from the prop as you can to eliminate the noise created by prop wash or cavitation. Any that I have purchased come with a mounting guide and templates that make installation simple. Tip:a hole in the hull is a leak.

In the manual with the fishfinder it will give you a very good pic etc of where to mount your transducer. If this is going to be your main fishfinder than the hull mount is the way to go so you can run at speed and still utilize your fishfinder. If you do not want to drill a couple of small holes into your transom (seal with silicone and no leaks) what some guys do is buy a plastic mounting board and glue that to the transom with a good marine epoxy and then mount the transduscer to that.

Talk to Mulestalker here, he has a bunch of the King Starboard plastic that is PERFECT for using as a transducer mounting plate.

Two permanent holes to attach the plate and then you have complete freedom from there to mount and remount the transducer as many times as you need to in order to get the best performance, with no more holes to drill in your hull.
