Just got back from Canyon Creek on Lesser Slave Lake.
What a crazy windy day!
Ice looks pretty scary and incredible at the same time.

It looks dangerous, but it is pretty thick, almost 11''

We were trying to find 20-25 FOW but on our way to the deepness got stopped by a major crack, which had separated us from our goal and left us at 15-17 FOW only

Look at this Shark fin!

Just look at those figures and structures the nature created for us, using frost and wind... This, indeed is pure magic!

Don't tell me it doesn't look like real waves!

We spent couple of hours seeking a deeper spot walking along that crack, but with no luck, everywhere we went we ended up seeing 15-17 FOW. Gave up than and tried to fish that area, super slow, almost dead... Didn't land any fish, just had 3 hits on tip ups. Anyway, was a wicked day, being on the great lake just by ourselfs, seeing that magical ice.

If you go there, be extra careful, ice is still shifting in some spots. Not gonna be ready for driving for awhile.

Cheers!

P.S. Later will post a little video showing more beauty of that place. Stay tuned.

Holy those are some wicked pictures. You don't see ice freeze like very often. Thanks for posting them.

Nice work on the pictures. I think you captured it well. That is quite the ice formations. You might have to rename that spot shark fin point or bay :)

Thanks for the report. This is exactly what I was wondering. I will google it but what side of the lake we’re you on South west?

Canyon Creek is on south side more east end. Great Pics No snow so the cold weather this upcoming week will drive the ice down. We just dont need the big winds

Thank you guys! I love those pictures too, I think we got quite lucky to see something like that. Next time, however, I'd rather see some fish on ice! :)

Great pics OP, I've never seen ice "waves" like that before. Was there multiple heaves/cracks off Canyon Creek or just one large one? No shacks out yet I take it?

There were at least 3 great cracks like that.
Shacks!? We were on the lake by ourselves, noone was there as far as eye could see! Lol. Didn't see any previous holes drilled either.

Thanks for the info. Didn’t think any shacks would be out yet but some people are braver/crazier than most......:)

From a bit of distance you would swear you were looking at some open water the way that froze up. Would be a little cautious approaching that area until realizing it was frozen solid lol! Great pics, thanks for posting

Any idea how the ice had been as of late. I wanna head up there next week friday saturday with my brothers and take the 3/4 ton on but if it's a no go for the truck it's a long walk out to fishable depths.

There’s at least one shack out there at full depth, it was pulled by a Jeep either yesterday or the day before. The ridge is apparently not a problem anymore. I’m heading up next week myself and I hope it’ll be good enough for my 3/4 ton. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171224/93c7a14d030ffe9c4d0a86ab2b16b4e8.jpg
