View Full Version : Purging propane tanks

Normally I would think to post this in the General section except that it is for running my buddy heater for ice fishing and figured some on here have likely needed to do the same. My question is if anyone here has had to purge a propane tank, where around Edmonton did they get this done, and done well of course?

I have two tanks that I have been told require purging. An 11-lb that I bought last year specifically for the buddy heater and a 20-lb that I tried to get filled but would not fill properly and the "technician" said it likely needed to be purged. When I got the 11-lb filled last year I know it was just filled directly by a "technician" and not purged. I don't recall if it has a sticker on it to first purge or not. It was purchased at Canuck Tire. FYI, yes I do have the line filter for the buddy heater which I tried first but still have problems with these 2 particular tanks. Right now I'm back on the 1 lb tanks.

Thanks!

Get the refill adapter for the 1# tanks and fill them yourself.

I thought about that already but no thanks for me. I don't like the idea of switching out tanks so quickly with those small bottles that do not last long. I want something that I can fill and use for awhile which is why I have bigger tanks in the first place.

Owning the adapter is currently legal however actually using it is illegal.
I posted the link in some other thread if you want to search for it.

There is a propane shack on 50th Steet and the Sherwood Park freeway. Temp Heat can also do it, 9208 58 Ave NW, Edmonton, but the cost of the fill is a little more.

Any propane supplier like superior or blue wave should be able to purge for you.

Thanks all! I'll try for Temp Heat or Propane Shack as they are a bit closer for me.

COOP purged and filled my last new tanks.
No extra charge.
