just a heads up for those heading out to North McGregor(milo) this weekend...

Today we fished south east of the boat launch and can report ice is 8-12 inches in MOST spots. The area along the south west shoreline that was open water on Monday has iced over and is less than 4 inches...I tried to walk out to drill a test hole but the ice was giving way so I didn't push my luck. a couple days more I'd say.

Fishing was red hot, we landed several pike in the 10 pound class and 1 5 pound rainbow and 1 3.3 pound rainbow. We were marking whitefish all day long but could not get them to hit anything. One school of approx 50 fish swam under our holes but didn't even glance at out tackle. We fished 4-10 FOW and caught both rainbows in 4 FOW

Gotta ask... are the trout becoming a more regular occurrence in this lake??? It just seems that more people are posting catches of trout more often????

I was there today...12 inches most places south of the boat launch....bitterly cold and it was starting to snow when I left at 5 pm

Another great day of fishing...6 walleye, 11 pike and another Rainbow.

this one is 21" and weighed in at 3 b 2oz

saw a pile of whites but couldn't get them to bite.

Heading back out Saturday :)

Awesome rainbow!

We were out there as well, on the north end. That must’ve been you closer to the ramp!

We had pike all day, biggest was only around 10lbs though. Between the two of us, we landed 20 pike. Saw a few random whites around on the camera but none of the other species. The whites weren’t interested in anything and seemed to be mindless zombies.

"That must’ve been you closer to the ramp!"

Nope, wasn't me. I stopped fishing the launch 3 weeks ago. I was somewhere else.

Have you been out since this report? Taking my Son out for the day and just wondering how things are out there right now....

Thanks for any information you can spare:)

With the different species...trout, walleye and pike.... are they hitting the same lures/tackle or are you changing approach for each? What's a good all round approach? Jig and Minnow?

My best all round set up has been a brown tungsten micro jig tipped with meal worm(half a large meal worm) on bottom with a brass wire worm 12 inches up on my jigging rod.....all species have been hitting either and when things get slow replace the jig with a small jigging spoon ie sweedish pimple or slender spoon.(silver/blue & gold/brown have been doing well)
I dead stick a micro jig/meal worm in opposite colors (bright yellow jig silver wire worm)and this has been producing as well. I've been catching the bigger fish on the deadstick.
The key has been depth, shallow (4-6 FOW)has been better for whites and trout and most the walleye and pike have been in 8-11.5 FOW if your not marking fish after an hour , move.
Also I don't use minnows unless it's for Burbot because it's a dinner bell for smaller pike and the whites and trout disappear when the pike show up.

Good luck Kevin, I caught/released a 16" Ling at the south tip the other morning before sun up on a beef jerky tipped glo jig lol

It's nice to see the walleye rebound, this big healthy girl took a yellow wire worm yesterday morning, there is hope for the future of this lake.http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/attachment.php?attachmentid=141410&stc=1&d=1515106863

Great info, thanks!

Never been to this lake before; don’t want you to give up your honey hole or anything, but can you suggest a spot for a fella to try, without driving on? I hate driving on ice; scares the ****e outta me. ;)

The dam or south of the boat launch have easy foot access. If you fish the boat launch walk out about 70-80 feet, you'll see a pile of holes in one spot, there is some structure there that seems to produce. McGregor is a fickle lake some days and red hot and others can be stone cold. I've been skunked more than a few times on her.

This stud took a wire worm our last trip near there so anything is possible..
