Guys,

I have been looking at those plastic utility sleds to haul stuff behind my quad or to pull out on the ice. Looks like a bunch of different brands and a wide range of retailers and prices. What do I look for ? Are they all made of the same material ?

I want to haul some firewood, my ice auger, small square bales , & general supplies.

One I have been leaning towards is the larger red Pelican with the runners for around 200.00 and buy the separate quad hitch for 60.00 I think its made from Ram X, like a Coleman canoe.

What have you guys been using or successful with ?

Check UFA for their calf sleds as well. Very durable.

Check Peavy Mart as well. I found their pricing to be good. For ice fishing I use the large model to carry the tent, auger, tackle and other stuff. I have also have the size one size up from the calf sled and use this for hunting. Getting the tow attachment vs using rope is a big help in avoiding tipping and having the sled run into the quad.

Costco clears out the large black pelicans with runners, hitch and cover in late January early February for just over a $100 or so.

Ufa. Get rid of the cheap nylon rope when you get it home. Ours have lasted a decade. I use old synthetic winch rope

Otter brand, Magnum model I believe. Have pulled Ice fishing gear and wood to the brim behind a quad and sled. A buck and this year a pretty good sized bull moose out of the woods. It is large but I like it.

I bought a 48" sled from peavy mart for 60$ and attached two 24" lengths of angle iron to the sides just under the top lip using 4 1/2" bolts and nuts on each side. I also got two 48" long lengths of round aluminum rods from princess auto and squished both ends of each rod flat with a vise. I drilled 1/2" holes in both ends of the poles and the front end of the angle iron and used carabiners to attach the poles to the sled and back of quad. Going on 4 years and it still works perfectly. The poles won't allow the sled from piling into the back of the quad and by using carabiners at all points there is lots of play for turning. Way cheaper than buying the attachment arms

And probably easier to drag around than the hood off a '65 Buick that I use to use

You won’t find a better deal than the Costco skimmers.

We added strips of high density poly bolted on bottom of our trapper sleds. Gravel and stumps can be hard on bottom of most sleds.

If your hauling firewood, bales and such I don’t think this is what you want. These are great for dragging a critter around by hand.
If your pulling it behind a sled or quad buy a good one with runners etc. or you will be buying a good one soon after you buy the cheap one.

x2 and remember if pulling it by a ATV, UTV, snowmobile or Argo it has to have a solid hitch, as rope is against the law on crown land.

I bought the Pelican 75 at Canadian Tire for $139.99 on sale a couple of years ago, hitch was an extra $70 and cover $45. Buddy got the one mentioned above at Costco for $150 all in.
