World juniors is starting today. Czeck vs Russia right now.

Very surprised there is very few people watching this game.

Stands are very empty. Game is in Buffalo.

Czecks look strong.

Russia is weak this year. They will be hard pressed to get any medal this year.

Fairly entertaining game so far.

I doubt it will get too much better. Weather sucks, very cold and lots of snow. Too bad. Outdoor game ticket sales have been good though.

I think the world junior tournament overall may be losing a bit of its momentum.

That’s interesting as there is more parity than ever before. You would think that would draw more viewership.

If they wanted attendance then all games would be in Canada. Buffalo seems the worse so far. Worse than Europe. Or could just be perception.

Sweden had good attendance.

Could be ticket pricing.

I thought of that so I looked up ticket prices. Ranged from $35-110 per game or a 12 game pack was $800. I’m not sure how that compares to other years though.

Calgary/Edmonton years ago was well over $1000 per package. And that was for one city or the other. At 800 bucks US per package it would be well worth my while to travel to Buffalo to see the tournament. The cost to see the tournament in Canada is about equal to the cost of travelling to another country to see it.

For the 2009 tourny in Ottawa we paid approximately $750 for 17 games (included all the Canada games) plus the quarter, semi and medal games at the then Scotibank Place arena. For an extra $40 or so, we got tickets to the Russia/Sweden round robin game at the old Ottawa Civic Center as well.

Saw 2 of the best hockey games ever in the USA vs Canada New Years eve game and the Russia/Canada semi final game. Eberle scores to tie it with mere seconds left.

Not hate.

It is called country rivalry. US come across poorly and arrogant and fall on their arses.

We live in Canada. We are Canadian. Allegiance is to Canada.

I don't hate Edmonton but I want them to lose versus Flames.

Lol

You're funny.

:bad_boys_20:

I do hate this venue. The ice looks poor. Visibility poor. Not the best showcase for this rivalry.

Well hopefully the Canadian team can regroup and get focused for their next game. However, what has to be in the back of their minds, is why the cannot score once it goes to a shootout. Something for the coaching staff to figure out.

Thought the outdoor game as sensational, as did the players and the fans. Very nostalgic with the snow falling. Potential troubles were same for both teams and ultimately didn't have a huge impact on the outcome.

Canada's poor decisions cost them this game.

Very nice to see the Swedes have adopted the Canadian style hockey over the last several years. They have realized that they are Vikings and stopped the dipsy doodle flashy play of the typical European team . I have always felt that if Canada can’t win the gold then Sweden should.

I think that Sweden underestimated Canada. They saw that they lost in the outdoor game against the Americans. That wasn’t a real game. That was a gimmick. Luck had way more to do with that outcome than skill did in that event. I think that Canada ended up in an undeserved underdog roll.

lmtada
01-05-2018, 09:17 PM
Canada was surprisingly disciplined. One penalty. Swedes 5 penalties. At times I thought Sweden had good control, momentum. However in the 3rd period the momentum shifted to Red team. The first missed deflection with 5 minutes left, the momentum shifted. Red team shifted into overdrive. Was an exciting game.

HunterDave

I love that Canada won but honestly, I think that Sweden played a better game. If not for Hart we would have lost. Look at the shots on net and scoring chances, all Sweden. A very tough loss for them. Our guys battled hard against adversity and found a way to win......awesome! That’s the way that I saw it despite the happiness of winning GOLD!

sjemac

Canada has been on that side of the coin many times. Canada has been the better team that has lost on numerous occasions. Sweden was likely a little bit overconfident this time.

My son and I were talking about that last night. He is coaching with our local U-16 team right now, and he says that a highly skilled kid with a bad attitude is the worst sort of cancer on a team, and smart coaches stay away from them.
