Coinstars are the machines commonly found in grocery stores where you dump your loose change in and get cash back.

Machine rejects anything other than Canadian and some US coins

I took about $80 worth of change to Safeway a year ago to use the coin star machine. I was pretty P.O'd when I found out they take 18% of the money. I looked all over and nowhere did it sat the fee until you had already dumped your change into it.

Bought a couple of items at Safeway, and before I entered method of payment, I dropped about $90 worth of change in the slot, to which it gave me change In bills! Completely avoided the 15% charge!

Not correct
The machines have a screen with the terms that you have to press a button to accept before the transaction can proceed.
Yes they take a high percentage so it is foolish to put loonies and twoonies in but they are great for dimes, quarters, nickels and pennies if you have them

BTW they take 11.9% not 18

It's been around since like the 20s and was also prominently featured in a book written by Robert A. Heinlein called "The moon is a harsh mistress". It's a good read I'd highly suggest it.

I'm guessing that the thread is about what might turn up in the reject slot? I haven't used a coin sorter just manually roll them up once a year. Actually just did this week and a year's worth amounted to $214.

Don't think your lying, maybe 2 years ago they were like that..

Certainly not now, that I promise you. Next time your in Safeway have a look you will see that what I stated above is how they work

Took me awhile to find one but this one charges 10.9% Says so on a screen that you have to press go on before it will work.

I empty my pockets into an empty coffee container before I go to bed at night and it really adds up. Pays for a good part of a new rifle each year.

Found a couple pop can pull tabs is all. And it rejects all the loonies that have that really bright cheap yellowish color. Hopefully they're not all fake.
