Hey ,everyone. Just a heads up Y2Y the monied up group from Canmore is making a big push to shut down the Bighorn Backcountry just like what happened in Castle. The spandex crowd loves this protect the environment approach and supports it with even more money and so does the NDP. check out the group This is my Nordegg . Just got started and there is alot of info being shared.

Shut it down? You mean no atv's right? Lots of the bighorn is already no atv access. You can still hunt and fish though

If the Y2Y want a trail, let them walk down a cutline like the rest of us hunters and trappers. Also sled clubs just maintain their own cutline trail. Why does Y2Y need its own massive forest/park at the expense of all the rest of us users.

Because Y2Y measures their success by how much they stop others from doing things.

Yeah, I started a thread on this a few weeks back. Even the Alpine Club of Canada is worried about these closures!

Turns out that Y2Y is funded big time (25 million) to create a barrier along the Rockies that stops pipelines etc. from reaching Pacific tidewater. A continuous Park from Yellowstone to Yukon accomplishes a great deal of that.

What many hunters, quadders, outdoor recreationalists don't seem to understand is how well organized, well funded and how far and high their tentacles have reached into the political influence arena. They are so far ahead of the game, recreational users haven't got a clue. Outside of industry lobbying for their own interests they have really had no viable opposition from recreational users. The only hope we have is if industry beats them at their game. We have underestimated and dismissed these groups as a fringe element for years and still do. We need to take them seriously or one day we are in for a rude awakening. One piece at a time, after a while it's gone.
