The Monarch 3 is an excellent scope for the price.

Excellent scopes. Very good light gathering in the early mornings and near end of shooting time.

P&D has excellent pricing. If you don't care for the BDC reticle they'll bring in the Nikoplex or others for you.

Hilarious! Just in the same boat as OP. Ordered a Monarch3 4-16x42 off Amazon, should be here friday. Goes on my 30-06 Savage. Taking it to Suffield next month.

Sporting a Monarch 3 on my coyote gun (.223) and I've got absolutely no complaints.

Put a 3 x 12 - 42 on one of my 30-06's and really like it. The only change I would make is to go to a 4 x 16 for the next one. The Nikon spot on app is dead on for the loads that I use.

^^^ X's 2

Good clarity, crisp clicks on the dials, and easy to reach side Parallax.

If I was to do it again, I'd of picked FFP (First Focal Plane) with the BDC retricle.

The Nikon 3-12x42 is the first optic scope I've ever tried in long range shooting,,, so far so good to this point in time.

Once the weather warms up, I'll run it threw the vertical & horizontal tracking test.
The first reticle tracking test I ran was ok, the second test will be done using the optic vice.

One thing I like to see from Nikon is having the option to select different kinds of ranging reticles with more hash marks for those of us that like this option.
Of course they would most likely offer the standard duplex reticle for folks that like to keep things simple.

Other than that, Nikon optics are A - OK for thier price IMO only that is.

Put a Nikon Monarch 5x20x44 BDC on my 300WM a few years back. Absolutely love it!!! You will not be disappointed.
