Hey guys,

As always want to get a thread going with our reports from the season. It's crazy busy this year as first out mid May and go till mid Sept so will do my best to report at least once a week!

Fishing to start the season left right off from 2017, salmon fishing has been lights out with limits for each boat by 10am (8-10 Chinook on board with just as many lost) all of June. The last week of May was good for salmon too with limits almost every day just took a wee bit longer than now.

Halibut fishing has been great, as well as lingcod. Released a 185lb halibut with Fishing the Wild West TV show so keep an eye out for that in jan of 2019, and released a 200+ as well with a guest last week, plus lots in the 30-100 lb range.

We also have seen some better sized salmon in the last week, with a 36lber hitting the docks as well as quite a few in the mid to high 20's. I only have pictures on my computer to May 26th as of right now, will load the rest up tomorrow and upload from 27th on to now!

Will keep you guys updated and post May 27th onward pics tomorrow! We have had just the best damn guests anyone could ask for so far this season, so much fun on the boat and laughs non stop. Can't wait for the rest of the season!

Wowzer, nice early season report. I'm jealous. My boats in need of a new motor... too many repairs and unreliability of that old Merc Optimax. Will take the season off, save some money and hopefully back on the water next year with a new 4 stroke and hopefully less engine headache while fishing. Who knows might still go with the 16 footer if I get the itch. Thanks for the reports.

Just a note, area 12-19 you can keep one yelloweye per day, hence why in one picture there are some, only places on coast you can keep them this year (area 12 is Port Hardy area). Got a few PM's asking if they were open or not, only in above areas.

David, after reading through the BC Salt water regs the way I read it is, 0 retention for Yellow eye even in area 12, Can you please has there been an amendment to the 2018 sport fishing regs? I'm heading that way in a couple weeks and want to be sure I have everything correct.

“Outside waters” do not allow for retention in yelloweye. Inside waters do, which are areas 12-19. There were two separate releases so no amendment at any time.

Fishing remains very solid, with limits of Chinook most days and few days ago a 3 TYEE day, plus bottomfish and halibut are plentiful as always. Weather this season has been curious to say the least but we are still putting limits of all species or darn close for every group that comes out! Here are some pics from this past group.

Awesome Dave!!! Good work as usual, you must have the most reliable charter service on the West Coast!

I always enjoy your threads, keep them coming. Maybe we'll make it there next season, but you're just so dang popular might be hard to book in! Guess we'll have to do it early.

Fishing remains absolutely red hot for us, most days have periods of time where we can't get two rods in the water, will post pictures shortly :)

Yesterday was roughest day of the year, and probably will remain that way, but during that trip first day every boat limited out on all species, including some real nice Chinook, then two days ago while rough we still whaled on Chinook! Out again tomorrow, will report back, when it's not late like it is now will post pictures :) Had GREAT group from AO last trip out! Chris, Pacer, Hutchy, and Paul, just a bunch of beauties! :D

Speaking of beauties, the entire experience with Serengeti was top notch. They treat you like family. They feed you excellent food. David Jr. is so dialled in he will put you on fish. My freezer is full.

We tried several other charters over the years, no need to look any further, these guys are the real deal!

Can't wait to go back!!!

True story mike.. I shopped for months trying to find the perfect boot for my brown bear hunt to alaska. I showed up and my guide was wearing waders with Crocks.. Thats how he hunted Brown bears.

I switched to Waders with runners.

Great pictures guys. Seems Port hardy is doing great.

Shout out to David.

Thanks for taking my group of 4 out. Just got the face to face report this morning.

I want to report that David put them on a lot of fish in two days of fishing. As any guide will tell you there is a lot more stress trying to make four people in a boat happy catching and these guys delivered.

They loved the boat, the guide, the location and the accommodation.

Thanks for all your help and tight lines!:sHa_shakeshout:

Cheers.

Hey guys,

Sorry for how long it has been between reports, as I get older the long days on the water wear on me more it seems. Fishing this season has been nothing short of fantastic, we had a three day lull in salmon fishing last week then whammo, it's back to into 12-16 Chinook in two hours again. Chinook fishing has been great all year, limits daily are the usual and fast non stop action as well, especially around the tide bites.

Halibut fishing has been great so far as well, tons of perfect eaters and we have now released 6 over 200lbs to boot, and 23 over 100 lbs. Quite the fight to say the least. Caught 2 over 200lbs couple weeks ago to boot! Lingcod fishing easy as pie, doubles and triple headers are not uncommon with big 30+ lb ling common. My boat caught and released two MONSTER lingcod this year in back to back days, a 57 lber and a 48 lber...quite the site and even better to see those not as good eating fish go back down and breed! Larger fish are showing up now and it indicates like August should be some great fishing, with a Sockeye opening almost a certainty at this point.

Fishing today for all three boats was killer, into a ton of Chinook, great sized hali's and limits of ling all the way around including multiple triple headers (Ms Heather 6 did three drifts with three rods and got a triple every single time).

Anyway, we are 50-60% booked for 2019 and have all of our August guests coming in still to rebook, so if you are thinking of next year let me know as soon as you can!

Dropping the ball a bit on the reports this summer, busiest season yet and sometimes find myself falling asleep on the couch instead of reporting, will do a detailed one in the next couple days!

Fishing remains hot, limits of Chinook are common daily and more and more Tyees are coming over the rail with some Coho in the mix now as well (plus sockeye)...the lingcod and halibut fishing is great as usual, as we have unmatched fishing for those! More importantly, guests are telling us it's overall their best or one of best fishing trips they've taken, which is always great to hear ! Dates for 2019 are honestly going everyday, so be sure to contact if interested :)

Hope everyone had a great summer season and did get out and do some fishing. This season has once again shown Port Hardy to have some of the most consistent fishing on the coast. Every group left with limits of Chinook minus ONLY 8 groups, that's ALL season out of nearly 90 groups we have for over a 90% limited on Chinook (King) salmon rate. The consistency of our salmon fishery is amazing. As we entered September most of our Chinook have moved onto the rivers, but there were still some left. Even come Sept 5th on the Ms Heather 5 they limited out with 8 in the boat and 5 of which were over 22lbs. See below link to see pictures from the past few weeks.

https://imgur.com/a/fnPFZcn

August is always when the big Chinook (Kings) are in and this year was no different. We have caught several Tyees and Brianna, as many of you know helps out at the lodge and is my girlfriend, caught and released a 41.5 lb Chinook on the 28th, and the day before another guest on the Ms Heather 3 released a 39.5 lb Chinook (see attached pictures)! So great to see these big and seemingly more rare fish to go back and spawn and keep those genes going.

We spin casting for Coho salmon in the first two weeks of Sept, and every guest that has done it said it was then most fun they've had all trip! Using light tackle (15lb test) on light rods fighting these absolute beast of fish up to 18 lbs is something that gets anyone's heart going. We have had groups rebook next year for September just for that. They said they didn't even care if they saw a Chinook, that was just too much fun! And it really is, doesn't get any better.

Halibut and lingcod remains lights out, lingcod limits most days in under an hour for the boat, and halibut continues to be great as the season winds down and we do find some larger ones come in to feed. We released 35 halibut over 100 lbs this season as well, and had one of our best average size years on halibut.

2019 is already about 80% booked and there are only 1 spot left in August, 4 in July, and 3 in June! So if you are thinking of 2019 let me know as soon as you possibly can so we can get you the dates that work best for you. We still have 3 or 4 groups to rebook for 2019 as well so those dates will not be around long!

Really hope to see more of you out in 2019 and if there are any questions I can answer for you don't hesitate to ask!

Very nicely done! I love it up there and really need to get up there again and try some of that spin casting for coho! I caught one off Janette once right as we were leaving I grabbed the spinning rod and cast put a buzz bomb and bang first cast fish on! What a great way to catch salmon I absolutely love it.
