Battery size for electric motor

Hi guys,
We are about to buy a couple more deep cycle batteries for our electric motors for the one man pontoon boats. I am very tired of the big ***** battery and the weight of it on my boat. Are there batteries much lighter that will perform as well? :confused:

Not without going to lithium. Which are expensive, looking at $1000+USD per battery.

edit: Other option is to downsize your batteries but wont run as long.

Walmart used to carry an Energizer AGM deep cycle battery for ~$100

Much smaller and lighter than the others, e.g. Nautilus AGM which I am now using, but I used one in my canoe for 4 years. Had to recharge after every outing 'cause capacity is relatively low.

I've been wondering about this myself. Does anyone use a solar panel to charge a battery while out on the water? Or is is worth while to attempt this method of re-charging or maintaining a battery?

solar wont keep up to your demands on the water. They are a good trickle at best for what you could mount on a boat.

Not familiar with the big lithium batteries but the heavier the battery the bigger the plates and more weight.
