Wondering if I caught a laker or bull here. The pattern and fork in the tail scream laker to me but when I looked at the pics once I got home I am not noticing any black spots on the dorsal fin. Wondering what you guys think as I have never caught a laker before so not used to seeing them.

From the back ground it looks like you are in a river.
Where are you fishing .may not be a laker

I have caught a few lakers out of the Bow before, they are actually a pretty common catch on the river stretch between the Ghost and Bearspaw dams. If this is the Bow, I would be 100% confident with this fish as a laker.

Cheers

NSR by Abraham. I’ve been told Lakers are occasionally caught in there

There are a lot of hybrid Splake/ Slake Trout in that area as well.

(Male Brookie mated with a female Laker.)

Oh really? I never would have thought. Only rarely do I catch Brookies on the Bow in that area. Do you have a photo of one caught in the Bow?

We used to have access to Bearspaw res through the old gravel pit. From there, we would Zodiac upstream towards Cochrane. We used to catch them quite frequently. No pics that I know of.
