You might want to specify which Buck Lake.

There’s more than one? Haha, heading to the one just north of Rocky Mountain house.

So sorry I guess I am just old. In my day one had to specify if you meant north Buck lake or South Buck but I see now they changed the name of the Northern lake to North Buck Lake.

As it gets warmer the Walleye will head deep. Try a lindy with a leech or a jig and minnow, don't over complicate things.

West side of the lake is usually better, target steeper drop offs.

I was just there last weekend and had good success trolling in 8-12' of water. Was catching both walleye and pike. Stayed at the provincial park and stuck mostly to the north end of the lake, both on the west and east sides.

We had good success around 13 ft of water Father's Day weekend for both walleye and pike. Most walleye were 45-50cm but we did catch one over 50

Where are the decent boat launches at South Buck Lake, just for a day trip, coming in from the south. Thanks in advance.

I've only ever launched from the provincial park on the north west end but it is a pretty good launch.

Just watch the North launch if you have a bigger boat as the canal is quite shallow and very muddy if you get out of the centre.

Thanks for all the input lads! Fished two days now and I’ve been hammering the walleye. Nothing over 50cm but lots in that 45cm range. Bottom bouncing with a jig head and minnow on the west side of the lake. Kids are also having a blast, just need this thunderstorm to pass and get back to it.

There are some really hefty perch in that lake too but they only appear once in a while. Try a smaller jig head with a smaller minnow. You will catch 100 walleye before you might see one big perch.

People give Buck lake a bad rap saying it isn't that good.

I fish it almost every weekend and am quite happy with what I catch.

Sure there not huge but if you learn the lake you get to keep the odd walleye over 50cm. This weekend I actually got mad that I couldn't drink my coffee in the morning while sitting with a minnow on the bottom. Drop the line and just sit down and the tip of the rod was bent over. went on for a good hour each morning from 630-730.

The lake isn't at all busy either I find. July long weekend and for 3 mornings in a row I had the lake to my self it seemed until 8-830am.

And this year I have caught some random burbot on open water which make great fish fry's.

However I'd say the large pike have disappeared this year it seems. It was good they dropped the limit to 0.

I have heard of guys catching massive whites while jigging smaller lures for walleye & perch.

Are these just fish tales or are there still jumbo whites in Buck?
