Fishing in Montreal

Just curious if any of you folks have had the chance to fish around Montreal. I'm out visiting my old man and I heard there's decent bass fishing here. We don't have any gear so I'd have to go out and buy some to start. So I guess im asking is it worth it to grab some gear and if so what should I grab to target bass or catfish. Also if anyone has any pointers of where to start our search I would love to hear em.
