The temperature has spiked up to 30 above and I'm wondering if it's even worth going out fishing in the heat. At the local lake, there is pike but I don't want to go out and get skunked because of the heat.

Anybody with some knowledge of water temps able to give me some guidance on this?

Isn't it always worth going out fishing?

I'm sure there are much more knowledgable guys but what I find when it's hot is get out early just as the suns coming up....pike will creep up into the shallows then head deep as the day goes on. Last weekend it was high 20s and in the afternoon we were catching pike in 20-28fow right at the thermocline which was around 10-13feet.

And back at camp is a ice cold beverage waiting to wash down your supper:sHa_shakeshout:

The hotter it is, the worse the fishing is from shore for me during the day.

When the high is around 20, the fish start biting at 7pm

But now with the high around 30s, the fish don't start biting till 9pm

I think the fish come up shallow later, since it takes longer for the water to cool down.

No such thing as too hot to go fishing.

I'm always happy to go, but pretty slow in the heat

Once the water temperature gets above 20 C, expect slow pike fishing.

Jeepers was up at besnard a few years ago and it was 30 plus out....we were hammering the eyes....cooled off by slipping in the water and fishing with a life jacket on.:sHa_shakeshout:

Besnard is an awesome lake. I fished it years ago when it was 30 out and had wicked walleye fishing too.

I'm going out tonight whether the fishing is good or not, it still beats just about anything else.

Well, I went last night and it stayed at about 34 degrees the whole time I was there. I saw a lot of risings right on the edge of this weed bed and a bunch of huge ones rising out 100 feet or so. Got a few on a green and black Thompson. Tried to throw a frog where they were in the weed bed. Seen a few swirls but nothing else.

Thanks! I plan on going again tonight or tomorrow. What an experience it must be to fish on the bow! My father and I fished on sheep creek near grande cache 4 weeks ago and caught some bulls

Next time your looking for pike in warm weather its always a good rule of thumb to stay as close to the main lake as you can. If you can find spots on the lake reading a surface temp of 65-68 degrees will give you the best shot. The temps can get up to 75 sometimes.

Other thing you can do is run some of theose wally divers down at 20-25 feet. You will pick up pike in that range. The usual spots of weeds and shallows wont really do it.

Ideally look in spots close to the main deep part of the lake 10-15 feet of water with that temp around 65-68. If that fails, go to the trolling...

Something to try for the next time

Good luck man
