Yes, I'm planning on a salmon fishing trip but no change to my plans based on this.

Curious what Serengeti and others have heard.

I received the notification on the Chapter 7 town halls yesterday. There is a 60 day consultation process but the way I read the restrictions and the way actions have been taken I think this is a done deal.

I would be interested in what Serengeti thoughts are on the changes DFO made to the commercial fishing about three years ago. My understanding is that fro salmon they went from total harvest weight to a species specific count. So in netting a commercial fishing went to say x number of coho all other salmon pulled up were to be released. Just how successful is releasing netted springs?

Yes I am looking at two new to me locations on the Island and starting to gather information on Alaska. I have fished on and off shore around Kodiak Island and had a great trip.

Even with lots of commercial fishing and some sport fishing the northern orca population is rising.

What are the odds major changes will occur. However they slashed Chinook limits from 4 to 2 before mid July this season.

Didn't go over well. I feel many lodges and guides will suffer horribly for it. Especially since they slash halibut retention sizes again.

I hate the fact people were given commercial quotas and didn't have to fish after. They lease or sold to mainly large companies.

No royalty to the public. Just free money. Sucks as it means more economically valuable sport fishing is irreparably harmed.

The lodge we went to this year was in an area that had daily limits cut from 2 to 1 and retention from 4 to 2 the week before opening. While I was surprised by this it did not affect our stay. However this lodge being in the northern zone could easily have what happened in Prince Rupert - 0 retention. When I book ahead I will now be keeping this in mind and as nice as a spot as the lodge is in I will be trying a diffferent location next year. This is tough for the operators.

I really do not understand DFO on some of the actions with commercial fishing. Seems to be more harm than good to the salmon stocks.

Thanks for the update Tollers. I think it is a stretch to think it will be implemented next year. First revision 2008, 2nd revision 2018. Next is the final version and then an action plan execution. Maybe more in 2020 but who knows, like you said.

I'll bet my money on not happening next year in terms of action plan items. We shall see.

I hope you are right however this past year licences were sold on a 2/4 retention for springs and days before the season opened DFO changed to 1/2 for some areas, 0 retention for other areas (the limit was opened later) and closed some areas mid season. So to me it is not to much of a stretch.
