I’ve been looking at going steelhead fishing in the states and there seems to be a few places that look worth the shot. Has anyone fished Sandy River in Oregon? How about Washington? Any info on it would be great. Is the Sandy ok to haul down a fibreglass drift boat? It looks like most guys fish aluminum drifts, and also tend to use open face vs. Fly fish. I’d prefer to hit it on the fly. Also looks like the steelhead tend to peak in February? Any info on river conditions or do’s & dont’s would be appreciated. I might fly down this winter and do the guided thing, but would prefer to drive and take the boat. Thanks

Check out Idaho and the Salmon River along with the Clearwater. Both are only about a 9 or 10 hour drive from Calgary. Lots of people drift and fly fish the salmon, I have never done it myself but plan on doing a day or two the next time I head down to Cascade perch fishing.
